What is the role?

As an Environmental Broker, you will support senior brokers and client teams across the US in the development, marketing, placement, and servicing environmental insurance programs. This role is ideal for someone who is detail oriented, collaborative, and eager to grow their expertise in a fast-moving specialty practice.

What will you be doing?

Client & Broker Support

  • Provide ongoing support for environmental renewals and new business opportunities across the practice.

  • Assist in preparing underwriting submissions, including environmental due diligence summaries, site histories, operational narratives, loss information, and coverage requirements.

  • Review and summarize carrier proposals, highlighting key coverage features, limitations, and material differences to support broker and client decision-making.

  • Contribute to internal and external presentations, assist with RFP responses, and participate in select client meetings and calls alongside senior brokers.

Marketing & Placement

  • Coordinate the marketing of environmental insurance accounts to carriers, including distributing submissions, tracking quotations, and organizing terms and coverage structures.

  • Support the placement and servicing of environmental insurance programs such as Pollution Legal Liability (PLL), Contractors Pollution Liability (CPL), storage tank liability, and combined GL/pollution policies.

  • Ensure all placements, binders, endorsements, and client deliverables are completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with Howden standards and timelines.

  • Provide market submissions and product design options to clients, producers, and account managers.

Internal Collaboration & Market Engagement

  • Identify new environmental opportunities across the firm and support integrated client solutions.

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with environmental underwriters and internal account teams across Howden's US offices.

  • Maintain and update internal tracking tools and spreadsheets, including marketing activity, carrier responses, bound placements, and policy details, to support reporting and team visibility.

  • Develop and continuously expand knowledge of environmental insurance products, carrier appetites, regulatory considerations, and market trends.

What are we looking for?

Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of experience in environmental insurance or related field.

  • Environmental related degree preferred but not required

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong time management and organizational abilities.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to build effective working relationships across teams and with external partners.

  • P&C license or willingness to obtain one within 120 days (Howden will cover licensing costs).

  • Willingness to travel to different offices or client locations as needed

Compensation and Benefits

The expected base salary range for this role is $80,000 - $130,000; actual base salary will be determined based on factors including candidate experience and work location. This role is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

In addition to a competitive base salary, employees are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus. Howden also offers a variety of benefits and programs, subject to eligibility, including:
