Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading team that provides environmental solutions to the public and private sectors throughout the State of Maryland.
Job Description:
Maryland Environmental Service (MES) has an opening for an Environmental Field Technician to join the Technical and Environmental Services Group at our headquarters facility in Millersville, MD. Responsibilities include collecting environmental samples (including gas, water, wastewater, groundwater, stormwater, and soil) and conducting on-site field tasks across statewide project sites.
The candidate should be familiar with the practices and principles of field inspections, drainage compliance, environmental compliance, stormwater management, and monitoring. The candidate should be physically able to use landscaping tools and equipment, to include small tools and herbicide/pesticide applicators. Field projects will be alongside MDTA Rights-Of-Ways and within roadways, as well as private and government property. This position requires the ability to coordinate with various levels of both operational and professional staff.
Key administrative and operational duties include operating company vehicles, maintaining sampling equipment and supply storage areas, performing electronic data entry, and completing rigorous regulatory recordkeeping in compliance with State and Federal standards. Additionally, the position supports daily logging of procurement and labor hours, generates activity documentation for reporting, and performs general maintenance and manual labor tasks as needed.
This position provides support to other environmental projects, as needed. The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and strong organization skills are essential to this position. The position consists primarily of field work and requires the ability to work in adverse weather conditions and lift 50 pounds. Occasionally, overnight and/or holiday work may be required.
Estimated Pay Range:
$47,938.80 - $65,934.26

Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from a standard high school or possession of GED equivalency certificate plus one year of experience in environmental monitoring or a construction related field. Must have a valid driver's license with less than 5 points. Additional certifications for the position will be obtained on the job.
Preferred Qualifications:
A general working knowledge of small landscaping tools and equipment.
This position will be open until filled.
This position is eligible for on-spot, contingent offers. Candidates who apply after an on-spot offer has been extended (including internal candidates) will not be considered unless the candidate who receives the on-spot, contingent offer does not complete the process to become an MES employee.
Any offer of employment will be contingent upon successfully completing required pre-employment screens, to include full background check, drug & alcohol screening, and position appropriate physical.
