Job description

Job Title: Environmental Engineer

Job Description

This Environmental Engineer role provides consulting support for assessment, investigation, and remediation projects. You will focus on site assessment, environmental sampling, reporting, subcontractor oversight, and thorough field documentation for environmental and remediation activities. The position offers an opportunity to grow professionally while contributing to projects that address environmental compliance, management, and restoration. A Bachelor’s or Associate degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, or a related field is required, and the ideal candidate brings several years of independent field work and Phase I Environmental Site Assessment experience. Periodic travel to project locations may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform site assessments for environmental and remediation projects, including field investigations and data collection.
  • Conduct environmental sampling activities, such as soil, groundwater, and other media sampling, following established protocols.
  • Prepare clear and accurate technical reports that document findings, methodologies, and recommendations.
  • Provide oversight of subcontractors in the field to ensure work quality, safety, and adherence to project specifications.
  • Maintain comprehensive field documentation, including logs, photographs, chain-of-custody forms, and other project records.
  • Support the design and implementation of environmental and remediation solutions, including environmental engineering and design tasks.
  • Assist with Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), including records review, site inspections, and documentation.
  • Participate in activities related to underground storage tank (UST) removals and associated environmental testing and monitoring.
  • Contribute to environmental management and compliance efforts by identifying potential issues and supporting corrective actions.
  • Monitor environmental conditions and remediation progress to ensure regulatory and project requirements are met.
  • Collaborate with project teams in the office and field to plan, execute, and complete environmental projects on schedule.
  • Travel periodically to project locations to perform field work and meet project needs as required.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Associate degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, or a closely related field.
  • Approximately 3–5+ years of experience performing independent environmental field work duties.
  • Experience with Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs).
  • Ability to conduct site assessments and field investigations for environmental and remediation projects.
  • Proficiency in collecting environmental samples and following standard sampling procedures.
  • Experience preparing detailed technical reports and documentation for environmental projects.
  • Skill in overseeing subcontractors in the field to ensure quality and compliance with project requirements.
  • Strong field documentation skills, including maintaining accurate logs and records.
  • Knowledge of environmental engineering principles and environmental design practices.
  • Understanding of environmental remediation methods and approaches.
  • Familiarity with environmental management, monitoring, and compliance concepts.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Wisconsin Site Assessor certification is a plus.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.85 - $28.85/hr.
