Job description

NOVA Engineering & Environmental is seeking a motivated Environmental Engineer (EIT) to support Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Petroleum Restoration Program (PRP) projects across the state. The ideal candidate will live in Tampa or Tallahassee, Florida.

This role is ideal for an early-career engineer with hands-on field experience and a strong interest in petroleum site assessment, remediation, and regulatory closure. You will work alongside senior engineers and project managers to support projects from assessment through remediation and closure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the execution of FDEP Petroleum Restoration Program (PRP) projects from site assessment through remediation and closure.
  • Assist with field activities, including: Monitoring well and soil boring installations, Groundwater, soil, and vapor sampling, Pilot testing and remedial system monitoring
  • Collect, interpret, and document environmental data in accordance with FDEP guidelines and approved scopes of work.
  • Assist in the design, startup, monitoring, and optimization of remedial systems (e.g., SVE, Air Sparging, Dual-Phase Extraction, injection-based remedies).
  • Support preparation of technical reports and deliverables, including assessment reports, RAPs, and O&M documentation.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, field technicians, and internal teams to execute project scopes.
  • Maintain compliance with FDEP regulations, health and safety plans, and project requirements.
  • Assist with proposal development, cost estimates, and project documentation under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Work collaboratively with senior engineers and project managers to develop technical skills and advance within NOVA.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field
  • 1–4 years of experience in environmental consulting, with exposure to petroleum remediation or site assessment
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
  • Basic understanding of soil and groundwater sampling, environmental data collection, and reporting requirements
  • Ability to perform field work in varying site conditions and travel throughout Florida as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting FDEP PRP projects or similar state-led petroleum remediation programs
  • Exposure to remedial technologies such as SVE, Air Sparging, Pump & Treat, or injection-based systems
  • Familiarity with environmental reporting and regulatory submittals
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
