Job description

Position: Data Management Specialist

Location: Huntsville, AL

Clearance: Active Clearance Required

Job Description

The Data Management Specialist (DMS) is responsible for supporting a Missile Defense Agency (MDA) directorate to effectively manage their data and data sources. The DMS will work extensively with stakeholders to identify single sources of truth (authoritative data sources), establish relationships between other data sources, and integrate them into an organizational data model. You may also develop data governance and policy and educate stakeholders to improve data literacy across the directorate. Overall, the DMS will assist the directorate in creating an environment that efficiently and effectively supports appropriate data access and robust reporting an analysis, which includes promoting high standards for data quality, identifying data gaps, and recommending best practices and solutions. You will collaborate with Government customers, data owners, data stewards, developers, data scientists and other data services personnel to accomplish the overall goal of effective data management, analytics, and reporting. The DMS will promote a supportive environment and a cohesive team who freely shares information and documentation to execute outstanding customer support.

Responsibilities
  • Support the customer in creating and executing an overarching data management strategy
  • Effectively and efficiently execute data management activities, such as:
    • Data quality assessment
    • Data process improvement
    • Data model development
    • Policy and governance development
    • Data integration strategy development
    • Access control
  • Advise MDA customers as their resident data management and data quality expert and actively improve data literacy
  • Escalate issues to scrum master, primary government customer, and/or NMR leadership as appropriate
Requirements
  • Familiarity with common data capabilities and platforms such as SQL Server, SQL Analysis Services, Oracle, Azure, AWS, Microsoft 365, Power Platform, etc.
  • Ability to assess the quality of data and create processes to address quality issues
  • Experience executing efforts utilizing an Agile methodology and tools (i.e. Gitlab, JIRA, etc.)
  • Experience with data governance, data integration and data access
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite Tools
  • Must have a high level of interpersonal skills and the ability to successfully collaborate with team members and customers
  • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) certification through DAMA is required within 6 months of hire date
  • Familiarity with data-centric programming languages such as SQL, PHP, and R is preferable
  • Familiarity with AI/ML capabilities preferable
