Job description

Description
Position at New Pig Corporation
Product Development Engineer - New Pig - Altoona, PA 16601
New Pig Corporation, a leader for providing Environmental and Safety solutions for businesses throughout the world, is seeking an R&D Product Engineer to become part of our Product Development Team. This person will play a vital role in solving customer problems by researching technical options, designing new products, and adding the needed technical horsepower to bring products from ideation through to commercialization and manufacturing.
Our product engineers need to have broad technical aptitudes and interests, rather than being specialists in a single engineering discipline. The ideal candidate will have an aptitude toward problem solving, be very comfortable being hands on building prototypes, and be able to use technical thinking to create solutions and develop innovative, functional products.
Responsibilities:
• Brainstorm potential solutions for customer problems based on insights
• Collaborate with team members on suggested technical approaches for projects
• Responsible for form, fit and function of design and cost breakdowns
• Design and draft products and parts using 2D and 3D CAD software
• Design, build and test prototypes
• Design and develop test methods to qualify products for customer use
• Source, qualify, select and manage relationships with material, tooling and other supply and service providers
• Travel to supplier locations for development trials and production qualifications
• Provide manufacturing/production support for new products and continuous improvement of existing products
• Contribute knowledge and stay up to date on manufacturing techniques for: metals, plastics, non-wovens, laminations, formulating and structural packaging (and we know our Engineer will need to learn some of these operations on-the-job)
• Help answer technical questions from: Customer Service, Technical Product Support, Marketing, Manufacturing, supply partners and customers
• Technical documentation of key project decisions and design changes
• Integrate with Marketing teams to support tasks to introduce new products such as:
o Product performance testing and marketing claims
o Product packaging and literature (assembly, how to use, etc.)
• All other duties as assigned or directed
• Adhere to New Pig's Safety, Environmental, and Quality standards
Requirements:
• BS in Engineering (or equivalent in practical experience)
• Plastic part design experience and knowledge of mold flow, draft, and resins a plus
• Solid experience and competence with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks a plus)
• Project management experience
• Effective communication skills and superior attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and in team environments
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• Knowledge and experience with supplier management and negotiation
• Demonstrated ability to distill and capture learnings from multiple viewpoints including: customer visits/calls, market data, competitive offerings, supplier operations and other information sources
• Background involving skilled trades, mechanics, equipment repair, etc. a plus
This onsite position works out of our Altoona, PA location
