Job description

Entry-Level Landscape Designer

Charles Earl Landscape Architecture | Aquidneck Island, Rhode Island

Charles Earl Landscape Architecture is a growing landscape architecture practice located on Aquidneck Island, Rhode Island. Founded in 2015, the firm provides landscape architectural design services for a diverse range of residential and commercial projects throughout Rhode Island and the surrounding region.

We are seeking an Entry-Level Landscape Designer with a degree in Landscape Architecture and 0–2 years of professional experience to join our practice.

This position offers an opportunity for a recent graduate to work directly with the firm's principal and gain hands-on experience throughout the design and construction process—from initial concepts and 3D visualization through construction documentation and project implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of site plans, design concepts, and landscape architectural solutions for residential and commercial projects.
  • Create compelling concept-design presentations and 3D visualizations using SketchUp, Lumion, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Translate design concepts and hand-drawn plans into detailed AutoCAD construction documents.
  • Assist in the preparation and coordination of construction drawing packages.
  • Participate in site visits, field documentation, and project meetings.
  • Collaborate directly with the principal in the day-to-day coordination and management of projects during design and construction.
  • Assist in resolving design and construction-related issues as projects progress from concept through completion.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited or recognized landscape architecture program.
  • 0–2 years of professional experience. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and SketchUp.
  • Ability to understand and visualize spatial relationships and design concepts in three dimensions.
  • Working knowledge Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, solve problems, work independently, and manage multiple assignments.
  • Interest in both the creative and technical aspects of landscape architecture.

Experience with Lumion is preferred but is not required. Training will be provided, with the expectation that the successful candidate will become proficient in the software as part of the position.

What You'll Gain

As part of a small and growing practice, you will have the opportunity to participate in a broad range of project responsibilities rather than being limited to a single phase of the design process. You will work directly with the firm's principal and gain practical experience in design, visualization, construction documentation, site coordination, and project implementation.

The position is particularly well suited to a motivated recent graduate who wants to develop both strong design skills and a practical understanding of how landscape architectural projects are designed and built.
