Assistant Professor - Respiratory Care Sciences

Position overview:

The School of Respiratory Care Sciences in the College of Health Sciences at Boise State University invites applications for a 9-month Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position to begin in August 2026. Responsibilities include developing a lab, maintaining an active research program, and mentoring student research (60%), teaching (20%), and service (20%) to the school, college, and university to advance the School mission and vision.

Our program offers rich collaborative potential. Faculty expertise spans behavioral sleep medicine, obstructive sleep apnea, neurodegenerative diseases, and big data analytics, and we welcome candidates whose research complements or expands these strengths.

Located in the heart of Idaho's Treasure Valley, Boise State provides strong clinical partnership opportunities with leading regional health systems, including St. Luke's and St. Alphonsus. These affiliations offer exceptional pathways for interdisciplinary research, clinical collaboration, and community impact.

School overview:

The School of Respiratory Care Sciences offers three programs accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC). At the undergraduate level, the school is home to an Entry-Level BSRC Program that qualifies students for the credential-earning examinations of the National Board for Respiratory Care. The school also offers an online RRT to Bachelor of Science Degree Advancement Program (DAP) for RRTs who have earned an Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution. At the graduate level, the school offers an online MSRC Degree Program for RRTs who hold a valid credential and a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution. The School of Respiratory Care is one of seven schools in the College of Health Sciences that also includes the Schools of Nursing, Social Work, Kinesiology, Allied Health Science, Medical Imaging and Radiologic Sciences, and Public & Population Health.

Minimum qualifications:
  • A doctoral degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., D.Sc./Sc.D., M.D., or equivalent) in a discipline closely aligned with Respiratory Care, such as cardiopulmonary biology, physiology, neuroscience, or sleep medicine. 

  • Evidence of potential to establish a program of research and secure extramural funding 

  • Demonstrated teaching excellence 

Preferred qualifications:
  • A research-intensive doctoral degree (Ph.D.) or an M.D. with a strong record of scholarly productivity.

  • Program of research in translational science

  • Experience with securing extramural research funding

  • Experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate student research 

  • Licensed as a Respiratory Therapist or other clinical specialty in the State of Idaho, or has the ability to acquire licensure in Idaho
