About The Opportunity
Location: Gardiner, ME
The Risk Management Specialist I supports the Risk Management Department by assisting with regulatory compliance activities, conducting pre-blast and post-blast surveys under guidance, and supporting damage complaint documentation and claims investigations. This position reports to the Pre-Blast & Claims Supervisor.
What you will be doing:
  • Monitor and assure compliance with local, state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for performing required pre-blast and post-blast surveys of local homes, businesses, private and public properties.
  • Responsible for damage complaint and claims investigation activities.
  • Attend required meetings as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Document survey findings accurately using approved forms, photos, and field notes; submit reports and files in a timely manner.
  • Assist with compiling claim documentation (e.g., statements, photos, site notes) and coordinating information requests.
  • Support public relations activities as directed, including professional customer communications at job sites or residences.

In order to be successful in this role, here is what we will need from you:
  • Basic understanding of insurance practices relative to claims and loss handling.
  • Written and oral communications skills.
  • Computer literacy/spreadsheet knowledge.
  • Ability to follow standard processes, maintain documentation, and meet deadlines.
  • Professional customer service skills when interacting with property owners and the public.
  • Claims adjusting education and experience desired.
  • Public speaking experience preferred.
  • Self-starter with hands-on experience.
  • Ability to pass background investigation (including ATF).
  • Valid driver's license with access to own transportation; must obtain and maintain approved company driver status.
  • 0-2 years of related experience preferred (risk, claims, inspections, or construction/mining environment).
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the position.
  • Ability to lift 50-75 lbs. 15% of the time.
  • Work on uneven and loose surfaces in varying weather conditions or environments.
  • Stooping and bending 15% of the time.
  • Working in adverse weather conditions.
  • Working in an office environment.
  • Out of town, or out of state overnight travel to worksites required, as necessary.

About You
You are an experienced and professional Claims Adjuster with a solid understanding of insurance practices related to insurance claims and loss handling, inspections, risk, or construction/mining. You are comfortable working in a public-facing role where you are able to utilize your superior customer service skills to effectively communicate with property owners. You are proficient in using spreadsheets to compile data and prefer detail-oriented work where you can contribute to the overall success of a team.
