Job description

CAD Designer – Entry Level | Gas Distribution & Pipeline

Location: Salt Lake City, UT | Onsite

Are you a recent or soon-to-be graduate with a degree or certificate in Computer-Aided Design, Drafting, Architectural Design, Engineering Design, or a related field?

Are you confident using AutoCAD and looking for an opportunity to turn your classroom knowledge into real-world design experience?

We’re looking for an entry-level CAD Designer to join our Salt Lake City team and support the design and construction of critical natural gas distribution infrastructure.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career designer who wants to build a career in CAD, pipeline design, facility design, surveying/mapping, and energy infrastructure.

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare simple to intermediate piping/mechanical fabrication drawings, civil site and grading plans, and pipeline alignment/profile drawings.
  • Support the design of gas distribution pipelines, gate stations, meter and regulator stations, and related pipeline facilities.
  • Coordinate assigned projects and assist with drawing reviews and project status reporting.
  • Research existing facility information needed to modify or upgrade gas facilities.
  • Provide facility drawings, mapping information, and technical data to engineering, construction, operations, and other company personnel.
  • Provide gas facility information to external customers, engineering firms, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Read and interpret facility drawings, alignment sheets, surveys, field notes, and as-built documentation.
  • Work under the direction of supervisors and experienced CAD designers while developing your ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed drawings and meet established project deadlines.

What We’re Looking For

Education is highly valued for this position. We are especially interested in candidates who have recently completed—or are close to completing—a:

  • Associate degree or certificate in Computer-Aided Design & Drafting (CADD)
  • Architectural Design
  • Engineering Design/Technology
  • Drafting & Design
  • Civil Design
  • Related technical design program

Candidates with 0–2+ years of professional experience are encouraged to apply. Recent graduates with strong academic or project-based CAD experience are welcome.

Top Skills for Success

AutoCAD experience is the #1 priority.

We’re looking for demonstrated ability with:

  • AutoCAD – required
  • AutoCAD Plant 3D – highly desirable
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D – desirable
  • Surveying/mapping – desirable
  • Pipeline or facility drawings – a plus
  • Autodesk Vault – a plus
  • Vehicle Tracking – a plus
  • Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • CADWorx P&ID – beneficial

You should be able to read and understand technical drawings and have an entry-level understanding of Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and their role in construction drawing packages.

Knowledge of surveying principles, property rights-of-way, algebra, geometry and trigonometry is also helpful.

A Great Opportunity for Recent Graduates

You don't need years of industry experience to be successful here.

If you've recently completed a design-focused program and can demonstrate strong AutoCAD skills, attention to detail, technical drawing ability, and a willingness to learn, we want to hear from you.

We are particularly interested in candidates with backgrounds in CAD, drafting, architectural design, civil design, surveying/mapping, or engineering technology.

Work Environment

This is an onsite position in our Salt Lake City office.

The role will primarily involve computer-aided design and drafting, but you will also have opportunities to visit company facilities and gain valuable field exposure. Some travel and occasional overnight stays may be required.

The position may occasionally require overtime, weekend, or holiday work to support project deadlines. Field assignments may involve working outdoors in varying weather conditions and walking on steep or ungraded surfaces.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree, certificate, or equivalent professional experience in CAD/design/drafting.
  • 0–2+ years of professional experience, including relevant internship, academic, or project experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD.
  • Ability to read and understand facility drawings and alignment sheets.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently with appropriate direction.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Regular attendance and ability to work an approved schedule.
  • Willingness to comply with company policies and applicable industry regulations, including FERC and DOT requirements.

Why Join Us?

This is more than a drafting position—it's an opportunity to launch your career designing infrastructure that supports the safe and reliable delivery of natural gas.

If you're a recent CAD/design graduate with strong AutoCAD skills, we'd love to connect with you.
