Job description

MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING

Job Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineer supports new programs by developing new processes, designing tooling and developing production controls.  Responsible for the design of production tools and/or machines and for developing solutions to production problems relating to materials, processes, shop floor routing and tooling.  Incorporates all the production related aspects Engineering Change orders (ECOs) and revision changes dictated by the customer.  Works with the Director of Manufacturing Engineering on priorities and implementation of improvement projects. 

Functions:

Develops processes, methods, tooling, and production controls for new programs; supervises their assembly and proofing

Designs tools and/or machines of varying types (some of complex nature) for use in the manufacture of company products

Determines and reviews all manufacturing processes for cost effectiveness and feasibility, both before and after engineering releases to manufacturing

Coordinates all engineering releases and changes relative to routings, setting standards, data entry and follow-up

Determines priorities with the Director of Manufacturing Engineering and implements cost-reduction projects; maintains detailed documentation as required

Stays informed concerning new manufacturing technology and equipment, and investigates their potential applications

Recommends incorporation of new technology for company applications where feasible and practical

Reviews and addresses corrective actions and preventative actions

Performs equipment and process validations

Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Knowledgeable concerning mechanical principles, machining practices

Knowledgeable concerning modern fabrication and assembly techniques and machine-shop practices and techniques is desirable

Familiarity with ISO 9000:2000, ISO 13485 and AS9100 quality management systems and related requirements

Strong drafting skills using AutoCAD and solid modeling software programs

SolidWorks experience desirable

Capable of efficiently integrating existing methods with new innovations to economically solve production problems in a timely manner

Has initiative and able to work effectively with little direction and/or few guidelines

Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing at all levels within the organization as well as with external customers and suppliers

Working knowledge of computer systems and data processing, familiarity with complex ERP systems and MRP principles

Familiar with computer-controlled machine tools and high-volume automated production equipment

CADCAM experience desirable.

B.S.M.E. degree or a B.S. degree with a concentration of coursework in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

Not less than three (3) years’ experience as a Manufacturing Engineer, with tool and/or machine design experience

Familiarity of Six Sigma and Lean practices desirable

Familiarity with electro mechanical systems desirable; familiarity with test system development desirable; lab view experience desirable
