Job description

Position Overview:
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the role of Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, with an emphasis on accounts payable and data entry.  Focusing on effective time management to input detailed financial data in Quickbooks, this role requires a high level of attention to detail with strong analytical and organizational skills.  The right candidate will have prior experience in an invoice processing role, with a proven track record of managing multiple tasks simultaneously. This is an in-office role.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Enter invoices and credit card transactions into Quickbooks Desktop.
  • Categorize invoice and credit card transactions by corresponding accounts based on chart of accounts.
  • Identify any fixed assets or prepaid expenses to amortize over time.
  • Setup vendor profiles within Quickbooks and in respect to internal compliance 
  • Reconcile vendor statements, resolve discrepancies and investigate missing payments or outstanding balances.
  • Communicate with external vendors and internal departments to address payment inquiries and disputes.
  • Provide general administrative tasks, with a focus on data entry, documentation preparation and filing. 
  • Investigate and resolve problems related to areas of responsibility; gather and analyze information and act accordingly.  
  • Various additional administration and input tasks as directed by Supervisor.
Position Requirements:
  • Prior experience with accrual and/or cash based accounting, 1+ years (required).
  • Commercial roofing and/or general construction experience, 1+ years (strongly preferred).
  • Strong organizational, problem solving skills and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; strong Excel skills (required).
  • Experience with Quickbooks desktop or Online (preferred).
  • Excellent time management with emphasis on meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively.
  • Highschool diploma required.  Accounting or business-related certification preferred.
Working Conditions:
  • Office environment with typical office machines and exposure to noise and temperature.  
  • Extensive sitting, standing, bending, standing, walking are all expected activities.  Ability to lift more than 25 lbs. on occasion.
