What is an entry programmer?

An Entry Programmer is a beginner-level software developer responsible for writing, testing, and maintaining simple code under supervision. They typically work on basic programming tasks, fix bugs, and assist more experienced developers as they learn industry practices. Entry Programmers are usually recent graduates or individuals new to the programming field, and this role helps them gain practical experience and develop their coding skills for more advanced positions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry programmer?

To thrive as an Entry Programmer, you need a solid understanding of programming fundamentals, problem-solving skills, and typically a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with coding languages such as Python, Java, or C++, and experience with version control systems like Git, are commonly required. Attention to detail, eagerness to learn, and effective communication help entry programmers collaborate and adapt in team environments. These skills and qualities are essential for efficiently writing, debugging, and maintaining code while supporting project goals.

What types of projects can an entry programmer expect to work on during their first year?

As an Entry Programmer, you'll typically start by working on smaller tasks within larger projects, such as fixing bugs, writing basic code modules, or assisting with testing and documentation. You'll collaborate closely with more experienced developers and may participate in code reviews, which helps you learn best practices and team workflows. Over time, you'll gradually be given more responsibility, such as developing features or maintaining portions of the codebase, allowing you to build technical skills and gain exposure to project lifecycles.

You'll join a lean, high-impact team who share a passion for building beautiful, functional products. Our team brings deep expertise across tech and finance: with backgrounds spanning M&A, private equity, consumer fintech, and the Python open-source community.

Our Values (DEAL)
  1. Deliver: Everyone ships code, designs features, or works directly with customers to turn ideas into products.

  3. Align: We solve problems together, openly and with humility.
  4. Learn: We're always exploring new ideas, tools, and ways of working.

The Role

You'll work directly with our founders to shape the product and architecture from the ground up. As an early team member, you'll have an outsized impact on everything from system design to our engineering culture. While prior experience is not required, a background or interest in LLMs and Machine Learning is a big plus.

Responsibilities
  • Design & Build: Architect scalable, high-performance APIs to serve financial data and turn them into product features
  • AI-Powered Systems: Generate datasets and research reports using LLMs; applying evals and fine-tuning to drive accuracy
  • Data Processing: Process large datasets using Airflow, Pandas, and Spark
  • Web Crawling: Develop high-scale systems for crawling sites and docs from the web
  • Infrastructure: Manage infrastructure with Terraform, Docker, AWS ECS, and monitoring tools like Sentry and CloudWatch
Requirements
  • 2+ years building scalable software systems
  • Expertise in Python and SQL
  • Plus: Comfortable with data processing frameworks (Airflow, Pandas, Spark)
  • Plus: Familiarity with infra automation tools (Terraform, Docker)
  • Plus: Background in LLM systems and Machine Learning
Perks & Benefits

*If you'd like to add a perk, let us know! As a founding team member, you'll play a key role in shaping our culture.

  • Competitive Compensation & Equity: You'll have a meaningful stake in our success.
  • Healthcare: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Flexible Environment: We're based in NYC and value in-person collaboration, but we're open to remote arrangements for exceptional talent
  • Early Team Influence: Your input will shape our product, culture, and future.
  • Growth & Culture: We invest in your growth (courses, books, conferences) and regularly host team events, offsites, and socials to build our team culture.
  • Unlimited PTO
