Job description

Mobile Surgical Instrumentation Field Service Technician

Imagine starting your day at home in North Carolina, then rolling out in a fully outfitted mobile workshop to keep clinical teams ready for surgery. As a Mobile Surgical Instrumentation Field Service Technician with STERIS, you’ll restore precision tools that help save lives—right at the hospital, in a repair lab, or on our service truck. No prior instrument repair experience? That’s okay. This is an entry-level opportunity and we will train you.

A day in the life
  • Arrive on-site and triage surgical instruments for wear, damage, and function.
  • Use grinding wheels, buffing wheels, soldering equipment, and a variety of hand and power tools to complete basic-to-intermediate repairs with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Alternate between environments: inside our mobile repair truck, in a repair lab, and within hospital sterile processing areas—based on Customer needs.
  • Move frequently between the truck and hospital; weather will vary and you’ll often work in a compact mobile workspace with teammates.
  • Support multiple facilities across your North Carolina territory according to service agreements, staffing, and Customer requests.

Where you’ll work

This is a remote, Customer-facing role. To service the assigned territory, you must reside in North Carolina.

What you bring
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant, hands-on experience (no prior surgical instrument repair required). Relevant backgrounds include: assembly, small engine repair, cell phone/electronics repair and testing, rebuilds, carpentry, circuit board assembly/repair, sterile processing, industrial sewing, jewelry repair, maintenance, construction, or automotive repair.
  • Flexibility to work early/late hours with occasional overnight and out-of-state travel based on Customer and business needs.
  • Ability to pass a DOT medical/physical exam and comply with all DOT regulations; capable of driving a DOT-regulated vehicle and performing basic box-truck safety checks.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (CDL not required) and the ability to maintain required vaccinations.
  • At least 21 years of age (FMCSA requirement for commercial interstate driving).
  • Eligibility to meet hospital/Customer credentialing requirements.

Depending on your experience, this role may be elevated to Repair Technician II or Repair Technician III.

Training, growth, and rewards
  • Extensive hands-on training and development from day one.
  • Clear career path within STERIS Instrument Management Services and opportunities across STERIS.
  • Competitive pay plus a monthly incentive opportunity.
  • Comprehensive benefits: medical, vision, dental, life insurance, 401(k) with company match, tuition assistance, paid vacation, and paid holidays.
