Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university Louisiana teaching certification or eligibility for certification Strong classroom management and instructional skills Ability to work effectively with at-risk youth in a secure care setting Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills There may be additions and alternatives to the above qualifications as the Office of Juvenile Justice determines appropriate.

Job Specification The Welding Instructor provides hands-on vocational training to youth in secure care, helping students build foundational welding skills, workplace readiness, and confidence in a structured learning environment. This position plays a key role in preparing students for future employment by delivering high-quality instruction, maintaining a safe and organized classroom, and supporting each student's individual learning needs. The instructor models professionalism, positive communication, and strong leadership while upholding all OJJ and Department of Education policies.

Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: Teach welding, entry-level job skills, and employability skills to youth in secure care. Plan lessons, organize the classroom, and create a safe, supportive environment for learning. Use a variety of teaching strategies to meet different learning styles and skill levels.

Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and required reports; submit all documentation on time. Communicate effectively with students and staff and participate in school meetings and committees. Continue developing professional skills through training, workshops, and ongoing learning.

Follow all OJJ and DOE policies and perform additional duties as assigned by school leadership.
