POSITION SUMMARY

The Welding Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise and oversight of welding operations, with a primary focus on welding quality, compliance, and continuous process improvement. This position will serve as a local subject-matter expert for welding processes and standards, helping ensure welding activities meet applicable customer, code, and company requirements.

This role is being established to bring welding expertise closer to the operation and reduce reliance on remote technical resources. The Welding Engineer will work closely with production, quality, and other functional teams to monitor welding activities, identify opportunities for improvement, and provide practical technical guidance.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on knowledge of welding processes (GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SAW) and ASME Section IX, B31.3, along with the ability to evaluate welding activities from both a technical and quality perspective.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance related to welding processes, procedures, and quality requirements.
  • Monitor welding activities to ensure work is performed in accordance with approved procedures, applicable codes, customer specifications, and company requirements.
  • Evaluate welding quality and identify potential issues, deficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Interpret and apply ASME Section IX, B31.3 requirements related to welder & Welding Procedure Qualifications.
  • Support the development, review, implementation, and maintenance of welding procedures and qualifications.
  • Provide technical guidance to welders and production personnel regarding welding processes and requirements.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Operations to investigate welding-related quality issues and develop effective corrective actions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve welding processes, quality, efficiency, and consistency.
  • Serve as a technical resource across the organization on welding-related matters.
  • Assist with troubleshooting welding and fabrication issues and recommend practical solutions.
  • Support compliance with applicable customer requirements, industry standards, and internal quality procedures.
  • Review welding documentation and records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Provide technical input during contract and customer specification reviews when welding requirements are involved.
  • Work collaboratively with Quality, Engineering, Operations, and other departments to support successful project execution.
  • Stay current with applicable welding codes, standards, technologies, and industry practices.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • Experience in welding engineering, welding quality, fabrication, or a closely related field.
  • Strong working knowledge of ASME Section IX, B31.3.
  • Demonstrated understanding of welding processes, procedures, qualifications, and quality requirements.
  • Experience evaluating welding quality and identifying potential process or compliance issues.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications, welding requirements, procedures, and applicable codes.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with welders, production personnel, quality professionals, engineers, and management.
  • Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing/fabrication environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and compliance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Welding Engineer certification or professional welding certification.
  • Experience in piping fabrication, energy, or similar manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with welding procedure qualification and welder performance qualification.
  • Experience supporting quality management systems or welding quality programs.
  • Familiarity with additional applicable ASME, AWS, or industry standards.
  • Experience with process improvement initiatives involving welding or fabrication.
  • Previous experience working closely with Quality and Operations teams.
