Job description

GIS Technician I

GIS Technician I

Full-Time Capitola, CA (Hybrid/On-Site) Starting at $62,400/year

Lynx Technologies seeks a detail-oriented GIS Technician I to join our growing team. In this entry-level role, you will work with experienced GIS professionals, support municipal geospatial data projects, and build skills that can lead to advancement into a GIS Technician II position.

About Lynx Technologies

Founded in 1991 and based in Capitola, California, Lynx Technologies provides GIS professional services to local government agencies across the western U.S. As an Esri Business Partner since 2002, we support cities and special districts through staff augmentation, onsite support, and project-based teams. Our work spans Esri’s ArcGIS suite, Autodesk CAD mapping and Civil software, QGIS, VertiGIS/Geocortex Essentials, Microsoft SQL Server. We also own and operate survey-grade GPS data collecting equipment, and scanning equipment. We specialize in GIS data management, including needs analysis, geodatabase design, application development, system integration, and knowledge transfer, with a focus on Community Development, Public Works, and Public Safety clients.

What You'll Do

Data Integration — Assemble, collect, update, and quality-check geographic data in client systems.

Web Content – Update and maintain web maps and web services. Prepare new web content (maps and apps) for client sites in AGOL and ArcGIS Enterprise.

Map Design & Production — Create clear map layouts, presentation graphics, and visual materials for client use.

Research & Compilation — Compile and cross-reference local, county, regional, and state mapping resources, including recorder records, assessor parcel maps, topographic records, as-built plans, and other agency data.

Technical Support — Support GIS operations through document digitization, scanning, data entry and retrieval, and web application development.

Spatial Analysis — Conduct basic spatial analyses and studies that support client GIS goals.

What We're Looking For

Education — Associate’s degree or higher in GIS, Computer Science, Geography, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be substituted year-for-year.

Experience & Technical Skills — At least one year in the GIS industry with ArcGIS Pro 3.x performing spatial analysis work using industry-standard GIS software. Familiarity with relational databases, digital data conversion, and basic surveying concepts.

Professional Skills — Ability to follow detailed instructions accurately and build productive relationships with teammates and clients.

Communication Skills — Ability to explain things clearly, listen well, and know how to translate technical GIS details into something a client or teammate without GIS background can actually follow. The ability to be comfortable asking questions when something's unclear, and keeping people in the loop rather than working in a silo.

Highly Desirable

Experience working with:

Benefits & Perks

● $7,000 annual medical stipend.

● Vacation accrual: 40 hours in year one, 80 hours in year two, and 120 hours annually beginning in year three.

● Ongoing professional development courses.

● Eligibility for a flexible schedule and potential part-time remote work after a successful one-year probationary period.
