Job description

GFY is seeking a SUE Technician to join our Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) team. This is an entry-level position where you will assist the Lead Locator (crew chief) with all aspects of electronically and physically locating underground utilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Uses ground-penetrating radar (GPR), handheld electromagnetic (EM) locators, and other specialized devices, including vacuum-excavation equipment, to locate underground utilities (communications, electric, water, sewer, gas, etc.)
  • Drives, operates, and maintains vacuum-excavation vehicles
  • Regularly uses a variety of hand and power tools, including but not limited to wrenches, drivers, drills, pneumatic hammers, etc.
  • Assists with Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) daily setups
  • Stocks vacuum excavation trucks and support vehicles with appropriate equipment, supplies, tools, paint, flags, signs, asphalt, concrete, etc. daily
  • Participates in maintaining a safe work environment for all utility crew members

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license with a clean Motor Vehicle Report
  • Company training will be provided
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to think critically
  • Ability to travel out of town as needed
  • Ability to work outdoors, sometimes in adverse weather conditions, and overnight as needed
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis
