Your Opportunity
This is a multi-disciplinary, entry-level water resources engineering position that requires strong knowledge of civil engineering practices and principals along with understanding and appreciation of biological and ecological science. Candidates must have a BS or MS degree in a relevant engineering discipline. Applicants for this position must have strong writing and communication skills and should be familiar with relevant civil engineering software.
Your Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities of this position include desktop and field studies in support of a broad spectrum of water resource engineering projects. Typical water resource engineering projects would include those with a focus on assessment and design for aquatic habitat restoration such as dam removal, culvert replacement, and stream restoration and enhancement. Typical position support roles would include writing and documentation, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, and preparation of engineering design materials. This position provides substantial opportunities for collaboration with scientific disciplines as part of Stantec's holistic Environment Services program.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Required skills and experience include:
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Drafting skills, including experience with AutoCAD software
  • Good understanding of mathematics and engineering mechanics
  • Ability to creatively apply technical knowledge
  • Ability to perform fieldwork
  • Attention to detail, positive attitude, desire to support team success

Desired skills and experience include:
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS
  • Experience with surface water hydrology and hydraulics
  • Experience working and recreating in and along waterways;

Education and Experience
  • BS or MS degree in civil or environmental engineering discipline

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Travel requirements are flexible.
Stantec has hybrid work policy with the opportunity for you to occasionally work remotely; however, the role requires regular interaction with other staff and is primarily an office-based work environment.
Indoor (Office Environment) Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting. Noise level varies but generally at levels of conversation. Majority of time spent using computer/laptop at workstation and related office equipment. Time spent carrying, reaching, lifting, bending, pushing and pulling Up to 9 kilograms / 20 pounds Occasional - 1-33% of shift. Subject to some periods of sitting; will be required to stand for moderate lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment if required.
Field (Outdoor Environment) Activities are performed in a variety of outdoor work environments that may change regularly based on project requirements. Work environments may include exposure to varying terrain, heights, traffic control/protection, bodies of water, environmental (i.e., animals/plants) or biological contact. Work in an environment where the noise and temperature levels may vary. Time spent carrying, reaching, lifting, bending, pushing and pulling Up to 23 kilograms / 50 pounds Frequent - 34-66% of shift. Subject to some periods of sitting; will be required to stand for moderate lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Requirement to wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required.

About the Team
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
