Job description

Position Summary

Under the direction of shop management and Engineering, the electrical engineer uses engineering principles and design software, to help design, develop, and maintain electrical control systems and/or components to required specifications, focusing on economy, safety, reliability, quality, and sustainability.

Job Responsibilities

Electrical Design (90% of duties)

  • Assist with electrical design projects utilizing sound engineering principles and industry standards.
  • Create and modify electrical drawings and documentation using AutoCAD 2D and SolidWorks 3D.
  • Support the development and maintenance of electrical one-line diagrams and engineering drawings.
  • Assist in preparing bills of materials (BOMs) for electrical projects and equipment assemblies.
  • Review project specifications and customer requirements under the guidance of senior engineering staff.
  • Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and purchasing teams to support project execution.
  • Assist with design calculations and documentation required for electrical projects.
  • Support drawing revisions and engineering change processes.
  • Help ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and customer specifications.
  • Coordinate with vendors to obtain technical information, quotations, and lead times as required.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and control system drawings.
  • Maintain accurate project files and engineering documentation.
  • Assist with identifying opportunities for process improvements and increased efficiency.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) to support daily engineering activities.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to internal departments when needed.
  • Follow company policies, quality standards, and safety procedures.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn, develop technical skills, and take on new responsibilities.
  • Support engineering projects as assigned by management.

Electrical Testing (10% of duties)

  • Assist with electrical equipment testing and inspection activities under the supervision of senior engineers and technicians.
  • Support commissioning and troubleshooting efforts as required.
  • Review electrical schematics and drawings during testing activities.
  • Maintain project testing documentation, reports, and records.
  • Participate in problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Assist with field and shop testing activities as needed.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD 2D.
  • Experience using SolidWorks 3D through coursework, internships, co-ops, or professional experience.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems, electrical schematics, and one-line diagrams.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Internship, co-op, or entry-level engineering experience.

    Additional Information
