Job description

POSITION PURPOSE:
A General Maintenance Engineer will be responsible primarily for general maintenance and repairs in guest rooms, meeting space, and front of the house areas. A General Maintenance Engineer will also perform some repairs on mechanical, electrical, kitchen, and laundry equipment, requiring some skills and experience in these areas, as well as good communication skills to respond to guest room calls.
Additional responsibilities include but not limited to:
Prepare and paint surfaces of building structure, furniture and equipment using proper application techniques and various products. Knowledge in plaster or spackle applications, drywall installation, repair and finishing, mixing paint colors to match existing colors, and applying paint to all. Install and repair covered wall and ceiling surfaces throughout the Hotel. Perform all duties required as Fire Alarm Response Team.
Skills, Abilities and Experience needed to be successful
  • A minimum of one year building maintenance experience is required, with hotel experience preferred.
  • Good customer skills are also required.
  • Possess visual ability to identify colors and patterns, measure lengths and quantities and assess areas for repair.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
  • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must have all around skills and be able to make minor electrical, plumbing, a/c, painting, wallpaper and carpentry repairs.
  • Knowledge of vinyl, paper, fabric, and wall coverings of various weights is preferred
  • Must possess a high level of accuracy and neatness.

Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.
Licenses or Certificates
  • Ability to obtain and/or maintain any government required licenses, certificates or permits.

Physical Demands
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
  • Must have the ability to bend, squat and frequently lift 50 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Most work tasks are performed indoors. Temperature is moderate and controlled by hotel environmental systems; however, must be able to work in extreme temperatures like freezers (-10ยฐF) and kitchens (+110ยฐF), possibly for one hour or more.
  • Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 4 hours in length.
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability in limited space and to reach other locations of the hotel on a timely basis.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning and repair/maintenance tasks.
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.
