Job description

Amazon Interactive Video Service (Amazon IVS) is AWS's fully managed live streaming service, built on the same battle-tested technology that powers Twitch and trusted by thousands of enterprises across gaming, social, live commerce, sports, and entertainment.
Our mission: enable developers to build communities around live video. We handle everything from ingest to processing to delivery at global scale, so developers can focus on creating interactive, engaging live experiences for their audiences.

Whether you're streaming to tens of millions of concurrent viewers or just getting started, Amazon IVS removes the complexity so developers can move fast.
The IVS Stream Management team builds and operates the distributed systems that coordinate stream sessions end-to-end and keep the underlying fleet healthy under bursty, unpredictable load. As a software engineer on this team, you'll design and build systems that start and manage live streams for millions of viewers worldwide - working on systems that sit behind the customer-facing APIs and make every live stream possible.
Key job responsibilities
- Own the technical direction of one or more services in the Stream Management portfolio; write the design docs, socialize them across IVS and adjacent teams, and drive them to implementation.
- Work closely with engineers, product managers, and applied scientists to deliver seamless customer experiences.
- Ensure backend systems are highly available, scalable, and secure at AWS scale.
- Apply backend best practices including testing, performance optimization, observability, and maintainable code.
- Collaborate with other AWS service teams to integrate shared services and deliver consistent AWS service experiences.
- Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, design reviews, and on-call rotations.
- Drive operational excellence through automation, metrics, alarms, and runbooks.
- Lead post-incident investigations for high-severity events in our services; drive the resulting action items to completion.
A day in the life
You might start the morning by reviewing operational dashboards for anything anomalous in transcode start rates, then jump into a design review for a proposal to extend one of your services to a new region. Mid-morning you pair with a teammate on a tricky race condition in stream session teardown

In the afternoon you meet with a partner team to align on a protocol change and write a short doc summarizing the tradeoffs of two capacity-planning approaches. The work spans distributed systems, live video infrastructure, and cross-team coordination, and no two days look the same.
About the team
Amazon Interactive Video Service (Amazon IVS) is a managed live streaming solution from AWS that enables low-latency and real-time video experiences for millions of viewers worldwide. We power engaging live experiences for some of the largest customers in the live video space and continuously push the boundaries of what's possible with interactive video technology.
