CAREER DESCRIPTION
Assessment Technician Trainee
OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
This recruitment will establish an open eligible list that will be used to fill current and future Assessment Technician Traineepositions. The eligible list established may also be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower classifications throughout the County of Orange.

THE OFFICE OF THE ASSESSOR
The Assessor's Office values all legally assessable property with uniformity and impartiality, producing property tax assessment rolls in accordance with the laws of the State of California. The Assessor staff help Business, Real and Personal Property owners understand their property valuations and apply exclusions and exemptions as allowed by property tax law.

THE OPPORTUNITY
The Assessment Technician Trainee is the entry-level training class in the Assessment Technician series designed to prepare employees for advancement to Assessment Technician II. Initially working alongside journey-level staff, trainees progressively take on routine assessment assignments independently, subject to review.
This position operates on a non-permanent, one-year "up or out" training system. Within one (1) year of employment, incumbents must qualify for promotion to Assessment Technician II or be released from County employment.
Incumbents perform technical assessment work and maintain extensive public contact to provide property valuation information and services to the public. Additional duties include but are not limited to:

• Explaining and carrying out existing assessment policies and procedures
• Inspecting property and collecting data for the market appraisal of property
• Generating reports and assisting with data analysis
• Performing a wide variety of support functions such as checking and reviewing value, cost, income, and other declarations
• Computing value of real and personal property
• Researching title transfers
