Someone in this position, also referred to as a junior designer, works under the supervision of an experienced designer to gain skills and professional experience. The qualifications you need to become an entry-level UX designer vary, but often include training or a postsecondary degree in computer science or a relevant field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry Level UX Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level UX Designer, foundational skills in user research, wireframing, prototyping, and an understanding of user-centered design principles—often supported by a degree or certification in design or a related field—are essential. Familiarity with design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, and usability testing platforms is typically required. As you demonstrate your skills and initiative, you'll likely gain more ownership over specific components or even lead small projects. Collaboration with UI designers, developers, and product managers is a regular part of the role, providing valuable exposure to different aspects of the design process.
