Description Title: Researcher (R2) Hiring Unit: University of Hawai'i at Manoa, College of Education, Department of Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science Location: University of Hawai'i at Manoa Position Number: 0086019T & 0086033T (2 positions) Date Posted: July 1, 2026 Closing Date: Continuous; Application Review begins July 17, 2026 Salary Information: Commensurate with qualifications and experience Monthly Type: 11 Month Tenure Track: Non-Tenure Full Time/Part Time: Full Time 1.0 FTE Temporary/Permanent: Temporary Other Conditions: This is a full-time, 11-month, faculty appointment at the Researcher (R2) rank in the Department of Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science, College of Education, University of Hawai'i at Manoa paid by extramural funds. It is a temporary, non-tenure track position. The selectee is required to complete the College of Education New Faculty Orientation during the first year of appointment, Title IX training, other required training, ISAT, and must undergo and pass a criminal background check
Appointment to begin August 2026 or soon thereafter; continuation dependent on satisfactory performance, program needs and renewal of project funds. This position requires the ability to travel regularly to participating schools, partner organizations, and project meetings throughout the State of Hawai'i, including occasional inter-island travel. Because the position involves extensive collaboration with project personnel, faculty, and community partners, the incumbent is expected to maintain an on-campus presence of at least three (3) days per week, with additional flexibility as approved by the Principal Investigator and department chair.
Duties & Responsibilities: Oversee and coordinate the implementation and day-to-day operations of statewide grant programs, including coordinating project activities across participating schools, state agencies, and community partners. Develop, facilitate, and sustain collaborative partnerships with the Hawai'i State Department of Education, state-level advisory groups, schools, and community organizations to advance grant and project goals. Plan, organize, and facilitate statewide meetings, professional development opportunities, technical assistance, and communication for project partners and participating schools.
Collaborate with the Principal Investigator, project staff, and external evaluator to design, implement, monitor, and continuously improve project activities and deliverables. Coordinate evaluation activities, including data collection, management, analysis, interpretation, reporting, and dissemination of findings. Conduct and disseminate work related to grants projects through peer-reviewed publications and professional presentations.
Develop evidence-based resources, tools, professional development materials, and implementation supports that promote grant programming and facilitate statewide dissemination and sustainability. Provide consultation, coaching, and technical assistance to grant partners to support implementation of evidence-based practices. Participate in grant management activities, including project planning, progress reporting, budget monitoring, and coordination of project timelines and deliverables.
Participate in department, college, university, and professional service activities appropriate to the faculty rank. Perform other duties as assigned. Faculty Minimum Qualifications: Earned master's degree in Kinesiology, Public Health, Education, or a closely related field from a college or university of recognized standing by the date of hire.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including educators, school administrators, community organizations, government agencies, foundations, and university faculty. Evidence of scholarly productivity or potential for scholarly productivity through research, evaluation, presentations, technical reports, and/or peer-reviewed publications. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to travel regularly to participating schools, partner organizations, and project meetings throughout the State of Hawai'i, including occasional inter-island travel. The position requires an on-campus presence of at least three (3) days per week to support collaboration with project staff, faculty, and community partners. Desirable Qualifications: Demonstrated experience in planning, implementing, managing, or evaluating school-based, community-based, or public health programs.
Experience managing or working on federally funded or foundation grants. Experience developing and delivering professional development, technical assistance, or coaching for K-12 educators and/or school personnel. Experience with program evaluation, implementation science, mixed methods research, and data management.
Experience preparing technical reports, presentations, training materials, or other dissemination products. Experience building and sustaining partnerships with state agencies, school districts, community organizations, and other external stakeholders. Experience working within K-12 educational systems, particularly in Hawai'i.
Ability to communicate effectively in 'Olelo Hawai'i or demonstrated knowledge of Native Hawaiian language, culture, and educational practices.
