Are you ready to be challenged, make a difference, and experience professional growth in your career? Our collaborative, multidisciplinary group spanning architectural, structural, civil, electrical, mechanical, process engineering, pipeline design, and integrity management works together to deliver integrated, highimpact solutions.

Step into Your New Role

Kleinfelder is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented entry-level Water Resources Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join our exceptional team in San Antonio, TX or Austin, TX. This is a unique opportunity for recent graduates or early-career professionals to grow in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

As an entry-level EIT, you'll support a variety of water resources projects-including hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater systems, and water quality best management practices (BMPs). You'll gain hands-on experience in planning, analysis, and design in a water resource context while working closely with experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams. You'll use industry-standard software such as ArcGIS, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, XPSWMM, and InfoWorks ICM to deliver innovative solutions that protect and enhance the communities we serve.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist project professionals with analysis, design, and technical tasks across multiple water resources projects.
  • Ask questions and seek knowledge from team members to apply the best approach and parameter selections.
  • Seek direction on deadlines and time allotted for completion of tasks.
  • Develop an understanding of the effort required and reason for use of differing approaches.
  • Participate in peer reviews as a fundamental commitment to quality work by working with other team members to review interim work products and identify issues before proceeding to the next step.
  • Ability to track and complete concurrent tasks while maintaining attention to detail and meeting assigned deadlines.
  • Adhere to company policies, safety standards, and ethical practices.
  • Stay current in understanding the practice of engineering by completing continuing education and professional development.

Project Types

  • Hydrologic modeling and analysis.
  • One-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) hydraulic modeling.
  • Drainage master planning, capital project planning, and benefit cost analyses.
  • Low water crossing replacement analysis, planning, and design.
  • Development review and floodplain management for government agencies.
  • Limited water quality and low-impact development (LID) planning and design.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam (or ability to pass in first six months of employment).
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Eagerness for collaboration in a team setting.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and contributing to a team-oriented environment.
  • Familiarity with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software such as ArcGIS Pro, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, XPSWMM, InfoWorks ICM, or EPA SWMM a plus but not required.

Following an offer, candidates will be required to satisfactorily complete employment reference checks, verification of professional licensure and/or educational credentials, a motor vehicle report (MVR), and a comprehensive background check.
