Job description

POSITION TITLE:  Orchestra Assistant
Wage: $22.15 per hour
Hours: 29 hours per week, August-June
Start Date: August 2025
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
This position assists the Jefferson and Tecumseh Orchestra Director with daily instruction in a full classroom, small section or individual setting. 
REPORTS TO:
The Orchestra Assistant reports directly to the Orchestra teacher and building administration.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Teaching license (preferred but not required)
  • Knowledge of high/low string instruments with a strength in one of those areas is required
  • Must currently hold or be willing to earn an Indiana Substitute Teaching License
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Typical duties assigned to the Orchestra Assistant may include, but are not limited to the following:
 
  • Provide individual and small group instruction to Orchestra students
  • Assist the Orchestra teacher with supervision of students
  • Assist the Orchestra teacher with collecting work and holding students accountable
  • Assist the Orchestra teacher with performance preparation
  • Assist the Orchestra teacher with all performances and competitions
  • Work as a substitute for the Orchestra teacher when needed
  • Assist the Orchestra teacher with the supervision of students
