Role Title: Service Technician II | Position Type: Non-Exempt
Location: Livingston, TX | Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Role Summary
The Service Technician II performs advanced diagnostics, service repairs, and maintenance on customer- and dealer-owned lawn & garden and turf equipment, along with basic diagnostics on agricultural and construction equipment. This level reflects an intermediate technician who already has solid working knowledge of John Deere or comparable equipment repair, and who is continuing to build skills and experience toward more senior technician roles.
What to Expect in the Role
- Performs basic diagnostics and repairs on agricultural, lawn & garden, turf, and construction equipment
- Performs advanced diagnostics, service repairs, and maintenance on lawn & garden and turf equipment specifically
- Diagnoses and repairs 2-cycle and small gas engine products (comparable dealer postings list brands like Briggs & Stratton, Kawasaki, Honda, Echo, and Stihl)
- Participates in Service EDUCATE Training programs for ongoing skill development
- Maintains condition of vehicles, inventory, tools, and equipment
- Charges parts and labor accurately to the correct work order segment
- Works in the presence of customers in a manner that reflects well on the company and service department
What We Will Be Needing From You
- Maintains current knowledge of John Deere and competitive products
- Maintains a clean, neat, and orderly work area
- Completes all reports and forms tied to work assignments
- Accounts for all reported time in Service Delivery and all materials used
- Supports management in pursuing corporate policies, plans, goals, and objectives
- Basic computer skills; comfort with Service ADVISORTM or similar diagnostic tools
- Ability to work under general supervision, applying established procedures with some independent judgment (typical of a "II" level vs. entry-level "I")
- Availability to work the standard 8am–5pm, Monday–Friday shift, with flexibility for occasional overtime during peak seasons
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training in diesel, ag, or turf equipment a plus
- Some prior hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing 2–3 equipment types is usually expected at the "II" level (vs. no experience required for a Technician I)
- Valid driver's license
Physical Demands/Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, twist, squat, reach, push, and pull for extended periods
- Comfortable working in shop and outdoor field conditions
