Job description
Summary King County International Airport is seeking an undergraduate intern interested in Airport Management. The responsibilities of the Airfield Operations Intern include performing entry-level airfield oversight and General Aviation duties with the operations & external relations team. Specific operational tasks may include, but are not limited to, inspections, assisting tenants, administrative duties and record keeping, tenant notifications, airport badging, and ongoing education through IET online courses covering part 139 and part 77 subject matter.
The internship will help the student apply their academic skills to gain firsthand knowledge of Airport General Aviation, Construction, Tenant& Community Relations and Airfield Operations. KCIA's internship cohort program will provide opportunities to learn about careers in an airport environment and to be supervised and mentored by an airport professional. As part of the KCIA's internship cohort you will have the opportunity to learn from, mentor and work with fellow KCIA interns from other areas of expertise and background.
Through these experiences we aim to build a strong team that will become future airport and government leaders. ABOUT KING COUNTY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (BOEING FIELD) KCIA is one of the busiest primary non-hub general aviation airports in the nation. Located just four miles south of downtown Seattle, it averages 180,000 aircraft operations each year.
KCIA ranks among the most successful public investments in state history. The airport's annual economic impact is $3.5 billion - supporting more than 16,000 jobs and providing $1.8 billion in labor income in the county. KCIA promotes the health of the aviation industry by establishing pipelines for employment and for employee development
As a general aviation airport, KCIA serves small, commercial passenger airlines, cargo carriers, including UPS, private aircraft owners, helicopters, corporate jets, and military and other aircraft. It is also the final delivery center for the Boeing Company's 737 aircraft and serves as the company's military flight center along with other Boeing operations. The Museum of Flight is located on the airport property with a wide variety of aircraft and exhibits showcasing aviation history.
KCIA frequently is host to celebrities and dignitaries, who prefer Boeing Field because of its proximity to downtown Seattle and convenient connections to other business districts in the region. Due to its proximity to Lumen Field, T-Mobile Park, and other sports venues, many teams prefer to use KCIA when playing in Seattle. Job Duties Review and understanding of the BFI Airport Certification Manual Includes Airport Emergency Program - AEP Assisting with General Aviation hangar/tie down waitlists. Responding to customer and community inquiries. Developing standard communication templates.
Utilizing proper and required communications via air to ground radio with FAA ATCT. Responding to airfield emergencies with operations. Assisting with daily Part 139 airfield inspections.
Wildlife management and mitigation. Project Safety and construction oversight. Understanding Part 77 surfaces.
Assisting airfield tenants as necessary. Terminal Airside (and Landside when necessary) oversight. Daily terminal ramp FOD inspections prior to and during peak flight activity.
Assist with Noise complaint data. Airfield flight operations data reporting. Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills Basic familiarity of aviation and/or airports.
Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions. Skill in using computer software such as word processing and spreadsheets Oral and written communications skills. Ability to use handheld and ground radios.
Passionate and willing to work in a team environment. Supplemental Information Who May Apply: Currently enrolled in an accredited four-year college or university with a focus or interest in airport management. Work Schedule: Part-time/Full time hours: 20-40 hours per week depending on students' availability per their school schedule.
Work Location: This position will be 100% onsite with the Operations and Business Relations team at King County Internation Airport Terminal Building - 7277 Perimeter Road South, Seattle, WA 98108.
