Job Title: Trainee – Die Designer / Mechanical Designer

Location: Warwick RI

Position Type: Full-Time

Experience Level: Entry to Mid-Level (Technical/Mechanical background required)

Position Overview

Are you mechanically inclined, great with your hands, and looking to transition your technical expertise into a long-term design career? We are looking for a motivated individual to join our team as a Trainee Die Designer.

In this role, you will bridge the gap between practical mechanical application and engineering design. You will receive hands-on training to design complex stamping dies and tooling, utilizing your existing foundation in SolidWorks. This is a unique opportunity for a technician, tool maker apprentice, or mechanically gifted individual to elevate their career into manufacturing engineering and design.


Key Responsibilities

  • Learn & Train: Work directly under senior designers and toolmakers to learn the intricacies of progressive, stage, or compound die design.
  • CAD Modeling: Utilize SolidWorks to create, modify, and detail 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings of tool assemblies and components.
  • Shop Collaboration: Spend time on the manufacturing/tool room floor to see how your designs are built, troubleshooting real-world assembly and machining fitment.
  • Documentation: Assist in creating bills of materials (BOMs), engineering change notices, and maintaining design files.


Qualifications & Requirements

The Must-Haves:

  • SolidWorks Proficiency: You must have a strong working knowledge of SolidWorks (schooling, certifications, or practical project experience are all acceptable).
  • Mechanical Aptitude: A strong understanding of mechanical mechanisms, assemblies, or how things are built. You aren't afraid to get your hands dirty or talk shop with machinists and toolmakers.
  • Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, geometric dimensioning, and tolerances (GD&T).

Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Experience:

  • Experience working in a tool room, machine shop, or manufacturing plant.
  • Familiarity with machining processes (milling, grinding, CNC, Wire EDM).
  • An Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
