Summary
The Applications Engineer plays a crucial role in evaluating customer technical requirements and designing specialized compressed air and filtration solutions. Serving key sectors-including Power Generation, Pharmaceuticals, Chemicals, and Food & Beverage-this role is responsible for component specification, workflow integration, and cross-functional technical support. This position is open to experienced engineers as well as entry-level candidates or entry level candidates with strong foundational engineering skills and a passion for industrial process systems.
Key Responsibilities
System Design & Technical Specification
  • Design, size, and specify custom compressed air systems and filtration systems tailored to process specifications in Power Generation, Pharmaceutical, Chemical, and Food & Beverage applications.
  • Select appropriate components, piping, and instrumentation (pressure, flow, temperature, dew point) to ensure optimal system performance and safety compliance.
  • Perform system calculations, technical evaluations, and engineering risk assessments for complex process requirements.

Workflow & Data Management
  • Utilize various workflow and P21 ERP systems
  • Manage technical BOMs (Bills of Materials), system configurations, project schedules, and engineering changes efficiently.
  • Maintain complete and accurate engineering documentation, specifications, and customer-facing technical proposals within internal databases.

Customer & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate with sales to deliver technical proposals, answer customer inquiries, and evaluate RFP/RFQ specifications.
  • Interface with field technicians and customer engineering teams to troubleshoot system integration, startup, or operational challenges.
  • Stay aligned with industry-specific standards and implement as needed for optimal customer results.

Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
  • Education: Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience Level: entry level candidates considered; direct experience with compressed air systems, industrial filtration, or fluid power/process equipment is a strong plus.

Technical & System Competencies
  • Domain Knowledge: Understanding of compressed air principles, air treatment, or liquid/gas filtration media is highly desirable.
  • Software & Systems: Proficiency or familiarity with workflow/ERP platforms (e.g., P21, SAP, NetSuite, Epicor, or similar enterprise software) is highly desirable.
  • Instrumentation: Experience with process instrumentation, control valves, sensors, or automated monitoring systems is a significant plus.

  • Clear verbal and written technical communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical design requests in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
