Raytheon is seeking an associate‑level Embedded Software Engineer II (P2) to support development of Linux‑based compute platforms and mission‑critical processing systems used in advanced sensing and EO/IR programs. The ideal candidate has foundational professional experience in software development and is looking to deepen their expertise in platform‑focused and compute‑framework technologies.

What You Will Do 

  • Develop software components that provide core compute‑platform services, including data transport, scheduling, and processing orchestration

  • Implement and maintain frameworks enabling scalable, high‑throughput, and low‑latency processing pipelines

  • Support definition and documentation of platform interfaces, APIs, and data flows under guidance from senior engineers

  • Integrate software across Linux‑based compute nodes and heterogeneous processing environments (CPU/GPU/accelerators)

  • Manage and configure Linux OS environments and containerized runtime systems (Docker/Podman) to support platform deployment and operation

  • Participate in Agile development activities and CI/CD pipeline operations

  • Assist in performance profiling and optimization of compute workloads

  • Troubleshoot software issues within multi‑process or distributed compute environments

  • Contribute to improvements in platform tools, workflows, and software development practices

  • Onsite role in McKinney, Texas, with local residency or relocation required.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience

  • Experience in at least one systems-level programming language (e.g., C, C++, or Rust) and developing software in Linux environments.

  • Experience with real-time, platform, or low-level system development concepts.

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and/or DevSecOps practices and working within Agile software development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, or similar).

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.​ U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.​

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience with Docker/Podman and container security practices

  • Understanding of Linux OS security, SELinux/AppArmor, or secure configuration hardening

  • Experience with secure coding practices, vulnerability mitigation, or dependency scanning

  • Familiarity with CMake, Conan, and/or Artifactory

  • Experience with NVIDIA GPU drivers, CUDA, or accelerated computing

  • Experience supporting HW/SW integration in lab environments

  • Experience with embedded Linux platforms (x86_64, aarch64) or real‑time kernels (RedHawk)

  • Experience with kernel‑level development, device drivers, or KO modules

  • Familiarity with PCIe, UART, SPI/BPI, or other I/O interfaces

  • Experience with Ethernet, IP/TCP/UDP, or network interface development

  • Exposure to MIL‑STD‑1553, Camera Link, or CoaXPress

  • Experience with Yocto, Petalinux, DeviceTree, GRUB, or U‑Boot

  • Familiarity with VPX/SOSA hardware architectures, SBCs, or EO/IR sensor systems

  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued Secret security clearance.

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.
