This position will be with Construction Crew 2.
As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date. This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government.
Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.
Why does the job exist?
This position is an entry level position. The incumbent will learn and become proficient in field inspections, sampling, and testing throughout District Three to ensure State and Federal specification compliance.
How does it get done?
Conducts field sampling and/or testing to assure quality of material in accordance with American Association of State Highway and Transportation Official standards and specifications and document all project activities.
Who are the customers?
The traveling public.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:
- Road construction or road maintenance.
- Interpreting construction plans and drawings.
- Experience in mathematical computations such as volume and area.
- Working with Microsoft Office software to produce reports and/or spreadsheets.
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Employment requires successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results. Business reference check and Driver's License verification are also required, and employment is conditional pending results. May require Technician Training Certification Program (TTCP) certificates within one year of hire to include but not limited to: Nuclear Densometer, Concrete Field and Lab Testing, and Aggregate, Soils, Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA), Traffic Control, SWPPP, Inertial Profiler Inspector and Drilled Shaft Inspector.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in the field in varying weather conditions: hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow. Exposure to sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, rough/rugged terrain, insects and reptiles, noxious plants and infected trash; exposure to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals and/or asphalt and petroleum products; exposure to temperatures up to 150 degrees around oil distributor operations; high speed/high volume traffic and loud noises; subject to falls and bruises, considerable physical strain; standing for extended periods of time doing traffic control or walking long distances for litter control; hand dexterity required for some duties; numerous specific vision abilities to include: close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus; some climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling to perform job duties; ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Work may also be performed in an office setting with exposure to visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage to include working with faxes, copiers and printers. May be required to work irregular hours and is subject to call out for weather, accidents and/or emergencies on short notice; frequent temporary assignments that require travel and extended overnight stays to include weekends, holidays, and overtime are required. Willingness to accept change of geographical assignments, interaction with the public.
