Emergency Veterinary Technician
Department: Veterinary Technicians

Description

What You'll Do:
You'll play a key role in supporting our emergency and critical care teams-helping deliver high-quality care when pets (and their people) need it most.
  • Assist with emergency triage, urgent examinations, and treatments
  • Obtain patient histories, vitals, and presenting complaints
  • Provide safe, skilled restraint for critically ill, injured, or fractious patients
  • Perform and support diagnostics, including:
  1. Venipuncture and blood sample preparation
  2. In-house laboratory testing (IDEXX/Heska preferred)
  3. Radiographs
  4. Urinalysis, fecals, and basic cytology
  5. Place and maintain IV catheters; assist with fluid therapy
  6. Administer medications via PO, SQ, IM, and IV routes
  7. Assist with anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery
  8. Support surgical and emergency procedures as directed
  9. Monitor hospitalized and ICU patients; accurately chart vitals and observations
  • Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked treatment and patient care areas
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients, including discharge education
  • Collaborate with teammates to ensure smooth shift transitions and continuity of care

What You'll Bring:
  • This is not an entry-level position
  • Minimum 2+ years of hands-on veterinary clinical experience required
  • Prior experience in emergency, critical care, specialty, or high-volume general practice strongly preferred
  • Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT/LVT/RVT) preferred, but highly skilled Veterinary Assistants with advanced technical abilities will be considered
  • Demonstrated proficiency in:
    • Patient restraint and handling in high-stress situations
    • IV catheter placement and venipuncture
    • Anesthetic monitoring and post-operative recovery
    • Emergency protocols and multitasking under pressure
  • Experience with veterinary PIMS and electronic medical records
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to remain calm, focused, and professional during trauma cases and overnight surges
  • Flexible availability for nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis
