Job description

As a Software Engineer within PNC's Technology organization, you will be based in Birmingham, AL supporting one of PNC's ATM labs onsite five days per week.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated ATM Hardware and Software Tester to support the validation, certification, and release of updates to PNC ATMs prior to deployment in the production environment. This role is responsible for identifying defects, assessing risks, and ensuring a high-quality customer experience across ATM hardware and software platforms.
The ideal candidate will have foundational experience with PC hardware and networking, familiarity with SDLC and STLC processes (including defect lifecycle management), and hands-on experience developing and executing test cases-preferably using Jira. Success in this role requires strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, technical aptitude, and a willingness to learn and work across multiple backend systems.

Key Responsibilities
Perform manual testing on physical ATMs, including customer transactions, hardware fault scenarios, alarms, ADA compliance, and fraud-prevention controls.
Execute virtual testing of customer transactions using ATM simulation software.
Troubleshoot and remediate ATM hardware and networking issues.
Conduct API testing using Postman to support daily test activities.
Validate transactions and system events using backend applications.
Use Jira daily to create, execute, and document assigned test cases.
Identify, log, update, and track defects throughout the defect lifecycle using Jira.
Evaluate transactional screen flows and provide constructive feedback to improve usability and customer experience.
Assists in developing test strategies and producing test summary reports that adhere to PNC compliance standards.
Provides Test Lead backup support and assumes Test Lead duties as needed to ensure timeline adherence.

Experience as an ATM tester with hands-on expertise in test execution and defect management.
Proven experience leading or supporting projects with accountability for developing test documentation.
Hands-on experience troubleshooting hardware and networking issues.
Familiarity with JavaScript, Java, and Postman (preferred).
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and multitasking skills in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrates ability to collaborate effectively with team members and cross-functional partners, manage competing priorities, and deliver quality results across multiple initiatives.
