Security Officer
The Security Officer maintains a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors on Evangel University's campus and university-owned properties. Responsibilities include protecting life and property, enforcing laws and campus policies, responding to emergencies, conducting initial investigations, and providing general safety services. Security Officers are armed, requiring appropriate certifications, training, and proficiency in physical skills.

Duties & Responsibilities
1. Protect Life and Property
- Conduct routine patrols on foot and by vehicle to monitor campus safety, identify potential threats, and respond promptly to calls for service.
- Observe campus cameras using surveillance software to maintain awareness and prevent issues.
- Foster positive relationships with Evangel community members through professional interactions and engagement.
- Deliver safety presentations, training, and distribute informational materials as scheduled by the Director of Security.
2. Enforce Laws and Campus Policies
- Understand and enforce applicable local, state, and federal laws, along with Evangel University policies, applying them fairly and consistently.
- Respond to campus violations and report to appropriate law enforcement agencies when necessary.
- Monitor parking areas, issue parking citations, and ensure compliance with campus parking regulations.
3. Emergency Response
- Respond to emergencies such as severe weather, medical incidents, security threats, and natural disasters.
- Assist law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency personnel as required.
- Follow prescribed protocols outlined in the Emergency Handbook and directives from Security leadership.
4. Conduct Initial Investigations and Report Writing
- Investigate suspicious activity, perform authorized searches, and document prohibited activities or items.
- Conduct initial interviews, collect evidence, and administer field or sobriety tests when necessary.
- Prepare accurate and detailed incident reports using department software.
- Collaborate with Student Development and other departments to enhance campus safety and security.
5. Provide General Safety and Security Services
- Offer safety escorts, vehicle assistance (unlocking, jump-starts, etc.), and respond to requests for building access.
- Remain informed about campus events to assist visitors and Evangel community members effectively.
- Serve as a Campus Security Authority to ensure compliance with the Clery Act.
- Adhere to policies, contributing to the overall success of the department and Evangel University.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
- Security experience. Education in law enforcement or criminal justice may substitute for experience on a case-by-case basis.
Character:
- A professing Christian who supports Evangel University's mission and the Assemblies of God.
- High level of integrity and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Familiarity with security and safety practices, including patrol, crime prevention, and investigations.
- Ability to interpret and apply laws, policies, and regulations effectively.
- Strong observational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in computer use, including Microsoft Office and report-writing software.
Physical Requirements:
- Vision correctable to 20/40.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, and move quickly across campus for extended periods.
- Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds and using physical force to restrain individuals when necessary.
- Perform basic physical labor, such as jump-starting vehicles or changing tires.
Certifications/Training:
- Required certifications include firearms training, defensive tactics, CPR, AED, and first aid, with recertifications provided by the department.
Background Requirements:
- No felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude.
- Valid Missouri chauffeur's license with no DUI/DWI convictions.
- Final candidates must pass a background check.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- Extended periods of standing and walking.
- Nighttime, holiday, and weekend shifts required.
- Designated as essential personnel, expected to work during severe weather or university closures.
- Overtime may be necessary to meet departmental needs.
