Job description

Security Guard Position

With supervision, provides safety and security services in compliance with MSB policies to support campus safety and provide protection of the students, staff and personal property.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Monitor and control access to school property through the gatehouse or designated entry points.
  2. Verify identification and authorization of visitors, contractors, parents, and vendors.
  3. Maintain visitor logs and issue visitor badges according to school policy.
  4. Observe and report suspicious activity, safety hazards, or unauthorized individuals.
  5. Conduct routine patrols of parking lots, entrances, and surrounding school grounds.
  6. Assist with student arrival and dismissal procedures.
  7. Communicate effectively with school administration, staff, emergency responders, and law enforcement when necessary.
  8. Respond promptly to emergencies, incidents, alarms, or disturbances following school safety procedures.
  9. Enforce school security policies and campus rules in a respectful and professional manner.
  10. Prepare detailed incident and daily activity reports.
  11. Monitor security cameras and access control systems when assigned.
  12. Provide customer service and directions to students, parents, and visitors.
  13. Performs additional duties as assigned.
  14. Performs job responsibilities in accordance with procedures contained in the Security manual.

Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or equivalent. Associates degree or higher preferred. May be able to substitute related experience for degree.
  2. Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals with an emphasis on customer service.
  3. Valid state security guard license/certification.
  4. Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations.
  5. Strong communication and observational skills.
  6. Proficient computer and technology skills covering email, word processing, and spreadsheets. High degree of technology competency preferred.
  7. Ability to function independently and be able to make sound judgment decisions. Requires a high level of confidentiality
  8. Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods.
  9. Must pass background check and drug screening.
  10. Ability to achieve CPR, First Aid, and AED Certifications within six months and maintain certifications.
  11. General knowledge of standard safety and security procedures; previous experience in the armed services, law enforcement, security, firefighting, EMT or related field preferred.
  12. Must be 21 years of age.
  13. Requires a Class "C" driver's license with a driving record compatible with School standards.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working in a school or educational environment.
  • Knowledge of emergency response procedures.
  • Familiarity with CCTV and access control systems.
  • Conflict resolution and de-escalation skills.
  • CPR, First Aid and AED Certified

Working Conditions

  • Indoor and outdoor work environment.
  • May involve standing or walking for long periods.
  • 40 hours per week; 9pm – 5am Monday – Friday. Hours are subject to change. This position follows the standard twelve-month school calendar and is benefits eligible. Additional hours or flextime may be required on an infrequent basis.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, and climb stairs as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to [25–50] pounds if required.
  • Good vision and hearing for monitoring surroundings and responding to emergencies.
