Position Specific Description

The Associate ROCC Operator is an entry-level role within the Renewable Operations Control Center (ROCC), designed for individuals eager to start a career in renewable energy operations. This position combines the core responsibilities of a Restoration Technician with foundational Engineering Operator tasks, focusing on real-time monitoring, troubleshooting, and restoration of renewable generation assets.

This role offers hands-on experience with cutting-edge technologies and provides a clear career path for growth through skill development, certifications, and performance.

 
Key Responsibilities

Monitoring & Control

  • Monitor renewable generation assets (wind, solar, battery storage) using SCADA and other control platforms.
  • Respond promptly to alarms and alerts to maintain system reliability and compliance.

Restoration & Troubleshooting

  • Execute restoration procedures for renewable assets following outages or abnormal conditions.
  • Assist in diagnosing and resolving operational issues under guidance from senior operators.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate logs of operational activities and restoration events.
  • Ensure adherence to NERC and internal regulatory requirements.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Coordinate with field technicians, engineering teams, and market operations during restoration and troubleshooting activities.
  • Communicate effectively across teams to support safe and reliable operations.
 
Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree in technical field preferred
  • Experience: 0-2 years in power generation, renewable energy, or related technical field (internships or coursework acceptable).
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and safety practices.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Familiarity with SCADA systems and renewable energy technologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Job Overview

The Associate ROCC Operator position is a critical role within NextEra Energy Resources' Remote Operations Control Center (ROCC) that centrally monitors and operates the company's extensive 54GW renewable energy portfolio. Operators are responsible for representing NEE to our diverse set of customers with real-time coordination for changing operating instructions and market conditions, while maintaining compliance with NERC, FERC, ISO/RTO and contractual requirements and responding to off-normal grid and generation events.  Operators also coordinate internally with cross-functional teams for safe, reliable operation of our existing assets, and new site onboarding and monitoring through construction. These duties include response to compliance and operational alarms, coordination and communication for safety, environmental, and reliability events, coordination for maintenance and testing, generation event troubleshooting and restoration, coordination of high-voltage clearances, and substation fault troubleshooting and resets.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensures renewable generation assets operate in accordance with safety and compliance requirements
  • Maximizes availability, reliability, and revenue through alarm monitoring and response
  • Coordinates market participation with internal and external schedulers, marketers, transmission operators, and balancing authorities
  • Responds to, troubleshoots and recovers from off-normal events related to substation protection and operation
  • Manages initial emergency response for safety, cyber, and environmental events 
  • Plans outages and executes high voltage switching orders to support equipment maintenance
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
