Job description

Description

We are ERock!ย

ERock is a leader and innovator in distributed energy. ERock has responded to long-term trends in electricity by becoming the first smart-grid supplier to US energy consumers. The company installs, operates, and integrates its highly flexible, low-cost, and quick-response distributed generation to increase reliability and stability, reduce costs and decrease carbon footprint.ย ย

At ERock, our backup generators ensure that customers will never be without power, allowing their business to operate normally when there is an outage in the area. Our innovative approach provides customers with highly reliable, ultra-clean backup generation at a fraction of the cost of traditional backup solutions. We seek those who share our commitment to customer service, innovation, and ingenuity.ย

Role Overview:

The Junior SCADA Engineer supports the implementation, maintenance, and security of VTSCADA and real-time operational systems. This role bridges the gap between SCADA engineering, industrial networking, and IT server administration. You will work under the guidance of senior engineers to ensure the reliability and security of our distributed energy and microgrid fleet.

Key Responsibilities:

SCADA Operations & Support

  • Assist with the configuration, maintenance, and administration of VTSCADA and real-time data systems.
  • Support the onboarding of new generation sites, including tag creation, alarm configuration, and HMI updates.
  • Monitor system health and troubleshoot telemetry or data integrity issues.
  • Assist in maintaining technical documentation, site drawings, and point lists.
  • Provide entry-level support for the 24x7 Microgrid Control Center.

Networking & Connectivity

  • Maintain and troubleshoot industrial network hardware, including switches, routers, and cellular gateways.
  • Support TCP/IP networking, managing VLANs, subnets, and routing for OT environments.
  • Configure and monitor IPSec VPN tunnels to ensure secure connectivity between remote sites and the central SCADA host.
  • Perform basic network troubleshooting to resolve communication gaps between field devices and the SCADA server.

Cybersecurity & Access Control

  • Assist in implementing and auditing Firewall requirements and security policies.
  • Manage and update Access Control Lists (ACLs) to enforce network segmentation and least-privilege access.
  • Support patch management and firmware updates for all networked OT devices.
  • Monitor security logs and assist in ensuring compliance with company cybersecurity standards.

Server & Virtualization (Microsoft & ESXi)

  • Perform "light" administration of Microsoft Windows Servers, including user management, patching, and backups.
  • Monitor and support virtualized environments using VMware ESXi.
  • Assist with the provisioning and maintenance of Virtual Machines (VMs) hosting SCADA applications.
  • Help manage Active Directory accounts and basic folder/file permissions for the SCADA team.

Requirements

Basic (Required) Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Degree: Bachelor's or Associate's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, IT, or a related field (equivalent experience considered).
  • Experience: 1-3 years of experience in SCADA, Industrial Controls (OT), or a Junior Network/Systems Administrator role.

Technical Skills & Knowledge

  • SCADA Knowledge: Basic understanding of VTSCADA, Ignition, or similar platforms; familiarity with Modbus, DNP3, or OPC protocols is a plus.
  • Networking: Foundational knowledge of TCP/IP, Ethernet switching, and routing.
  • Security: Understanding of Firewall basics, ACLs, and the importance of IPSec VPNs in secure remote communications.
  • Infrastructure: Experience with Windows Server environments and basic familiarity with VMware ESXi/vCenter.
  • Troubleshooting: Ability to systematically diagnose hardware, software, and communication link issues.
