The Business Analyst (BA) for Intelligent Automation serves as the primary liaison between business stakeholders, RPA developers, and leadership teams within a healthcare revenue cycle environment. This role blends project management, process analysis, communication, and technical understanding to drive impactful automation solutions that improve operational efficiency and business outcomes. The BA oversees discovery, documentation, prioritization, and communication for all automation initiatives while representing the Intelligent Automation team to internal and external partners.

Local candidates preferred. Visa sponsorship not available.

Hybrid Schedule (2 days onsite per week if within commutable distance)

Key Responsibilities

Revenue Cycle Domain Knowledge

  • Understands core RCM functions such as billing, payment posting, denials, prior authorization, coding, and collections.
  • Identifies automation opportunities based on operational pain points, volume drivers, and common exception paths.
  • Ensures solution designs maintain compliance with payer rules, PHI security standards, and internal controls.
  • Works with operations teams to quantify automation value including time savings, accuracy gains, and revenue impacts.
  • Translates day‑to‑day RCM staff challenges into actionable automation use cases.
  • Or if not experienced in healthcare revenue cycle operations, able to rapidly upskill through accredited RCM training such as HFMA Revenue Cycle Certifications (e.g., CRCR), AAPC coursework, payer‑specific training modules, or completion of structured job‑shadowing within billing, coding, or authorization teams.

Project Discovery & Ideation

  • Leads structured automation discovery sessions with leadership and departmental SMEs.
  • Evaluates potential opportunities based on ROI, complexity, volume, and alignment with team strategy.
  • Maintains and updates the automation opportunity pipeline for leadership review.
  • Conducts feasibility assessments and drafts initial scoping documents for candidate projects.
  • Recommends prioritization of new opportunities based on resource capacity and business objectives.
  • Or if new to structured automation discovery, able to complete foundational training such as Blue Prism Business Analyst Certification, Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt/White Belt, or project‑scoping workshops to demonstrate competency in opportunity assessment and ROI evaluation.

Project Management & Delivery

  • Owns and manages the Intelligent Automation team backlog, including intake, prioritization, and sprint planning.
  • Leads end‑to‑end project management activities for automation initiatives, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business needs.
  • Coordinates across cross‑functional teams—including IT, operations, compliance, and development—to remove blockers and maintain momentum.
  • Tracks project milestones, risk items, and status updates, escalating issues as necessary.
  • Ensures documentation, testing, and deployment steps follow established governance and SDLC standards.
  • Or if not yet experienced managing automation delivery cycles, willing to complete formal project management training such as PMP/PMI‑CAPM coursework, Agile/Scrum certification (PSM I, CSPO), or internal mentorship under an experienced PM to gain experience with backlog ownership, sprint planning, and cross‑functional leadership.

Process Requirement Gathering & Documentation

  • Partners with process owners to conduct deep‑dive assessments of workflow steps, logic rules, exceptions, and pain points.
  • Develops high‑quality, developer‑ready RPA documentation, including Process Definition Documents (PDDs), requirement specs, and workflow maps.
  • Standardizes requirements across multiple business units to maintain consistency and compliance.
  • Validates requirements post‑development and ensures successful handoff to UAT and deployment teams.
  • Identifies upstream/downstream dependencies that may impact automation design.
  • Or if unfamiliar with RPA documentation standards, able to complete Blue Prism Solution Design training or courses covering PDD/SDD creation, Visio workflow mapping, and requirements elicitation methodologies.

Communication & Reporting

  • Serves as the primary communication channel for all automation initiatives, updates, risks, and successes.
  • Prepares and distributes monthly automation performance reports and value‑realization metrics.
  • Communicates project timelines, impacts, and expectations to stakeholders at all levels, including executives.
  • Facilitates regular stakeholder meetings, including steering committees, intake sessions, and roadmap reviews.
  • Ensures alignment between business expectations and technical outcomes through clear and proactive communication.
  • Or if developing communication or reporting skills, willing to complete business communication training, Tableau/Power BI fundamental courses, or presentation‑skills workshops to support effective stakeholder engagement and value reporting.

Technical Knowledge & RPA Fluency

  • Experience with one or more automation platforms (e.g., UiPath, Blue Prism, Power Automate, Automation Anywhere).
  • Demonstrates working understanding of RPA concepts, capabilities, limitations, and development workflows.
  • Bridges communication between business teams and RPA developers by translating business logic into technical requirements.
  • Supports test planning, scenario creation, and troubleshooting during UAT.
  • Helps identify where Intelligent Automation, AI, OCR, workflow tools, or analytics may support process workflows.
  • Stays current on automation trends and assesses opportunities to improve the existing automation portfolio.
  • Or if not yet hands‑on with automation technology, able to quickly upskill via Blue Prism University (RPA Business Analyst, Junior Developer), Microsoft Power Automate learning paths, SQL fundamentals courses, or guided sandbox projects demonstrating understanding of automation capabilities and limitations

Additional Skills & Competencies

  • Familiarity with SQL, Excel PowerQuery, Tableau, or other analytical tools.
  • Lean Six Sigma or process improvement training (Yellow Belt or higher).
  • Strong critical thinking skills and comfort operating in ambiguous or rapidly changing environments.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with competing deadlines.
  • Experience in healthcare payer or provider operations, especially in large, multi-facility environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to guide stakeholders with varying levels of technical knowledge.
  • Or able to build equivalent competency through citizen‑developer coursework, intro‑to‑analytics training, process‑improvement certifications, or platform‑agnostic RPA fundamentals programs.
