Registered Nurse Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse

Profession: Nursing

Specialty: Oncology

Duration: 13 weeks

Shift: Night

Hours per Shift: 12 hours (18:45 - 07:15)

Experience: 2 years preferred; will accept first-time travelers

License: Compact license or state license required

Certifications: Oncology Certified Nurse (ONC) required

Must-Have: Experience in an inpatient setting

Medical-Surgical experience

Colostomy care

Accessing ports

Blood product administration

Central line blood draw

Peripheral line care/management

PICC line management

Heparin administration

Insulin administration

Surgical drains management

Chest tube management

Nasal cannula usage

Non-invasive airway management

Isolation precautions

Wound care management

Description: Registered Nurse position in a Medical-Surgical/Oncology unit. RTO after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO on the unit could potentially lead to a cancellation. Candidates should have strong skills in Med/Surg nursing. Target patient ratios are 1:6. Contract staff will be assigned to work with home unit staff to ensure patient coverage. Candidates must be able to administer chemotherapy if needed. Call is required if called off on a prescheduled shift. Weekend coverage is required every other weekend. Travelers should be comfortable floating to similar units and alternate care locations. Patient diagnoses include general medical-surgical cases and cancer-related conditions. The daily census in the unit is approximately 42. Staffing ratios may be higher during times of increased census. Attendance at monthly staff meetings is required. Technological systems used include medication and documentation systems. Daily duties may include administration of chemotherapy, and management of various medical conditions. Candidates should be prepared for potential catastrophic events or disasters. Experience with basic life support (BLS) is necessary. Charge nurse experience and certification as an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) is preferred. Candidates must pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty.
