What You'll Do
As a Specialty Registered Nurse (RN), you will report to the Practice Manager (BMG). Under general supervision, provides nursing care and performs nursing procedures specific to the specialty practice in support of medical care as directed by the physician. Prepares patients for examinations, records patients' medical histories and symptoms, performs diagnostic tests, operates medical equipment, administers treatment and medications. May assist a physician in minor surgery and with patient follow-up. Completes laboratory duties as necessary. Routinely communicates with patients and physicians in a professional and courteous manner.
Specialty Registered Nurse (RN), Specialist Job Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide routine nursing care under physician direction
  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist physicians during visits and procedures
  • Perform initial patient assessments (vital signs, weight, height, visit documentation)
  • Administer and document medications as prescribed
  • Communicate with pharmacies regarding prescriptions
  • Collect and process lab specimens; perform routine lab tests
  • Direct patients to appropriate departments (lab, x-ray, etc.)
  • Educate patients on care plans and treatment instructions
  • Maintain patient flow, prioritizing urgent/emergency cases
  • Manage and update patient records, charts, and test results
  • Document all patient communications per established guidelines
  • Complete referrals and coordinate with insurance providers

Clinical & Specialty Duties
  • Assist physicians with specialty procedures (minor surgeries, stress testing, pacemaker checks, etc.)
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures (EKGs, tympanograms, non-stress tests)
  • Prepare and maintain equipment and supplies for procedures
  • Start, monitor, and discontinue IV lines as ordered
  • Administer treatments and monitor patient responses
  • Support lab orders, medication updates, and chart preparation under physician guidance

Operational & Team Support
  • Assign and support back-office staff based on scheduling needs
  • Monitor daily workflow and ensure timely task completion
  • Conduct periodic chart audits for staff and providers
  • Maintain patient records according to compliance standards
  • Answer phones and relay patient messages

Facility & Compliance Responsibilities
  • Clean, sterilize, and maintain medical equipment and exam rooms
  • Manage inventory and order supplies/medications as needed
  • Perform checks on emergency equipment and narcotics (as assigned)
  • Follow OSHA, infection control, and universal precautions
  • Prepare reports and assist with special projects

Organizational Responsibilities
  • Attend and participate in department meetings
  • Complete required training, competencies, and health requirements
  • Maintain active licensure and required certifications (e.g., BCLS/CPR)
  • Adhere to regulatory standards and organizational policies
  • Maintain flexibility for overtime and schedule adjustments as needed

What You Bring
As a Specialty Registered Nurse (RN), this position requires strong knowledge of nursing theory and clinical practice, including proficiency in patient care procedures, assessments, and treatments. Demonstrates advanced analytical skills to evaluate patient conditions, interpret data, and respond to medical needs, including emergency situations and adverse reactions. Skilled in IV therapy, peripheral access, and conscious sedation. Exhibits effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with patients, physicians, and staff. Maintains strong organizational and computer skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while supporting overall organizational goals.
Required Qualifications
  • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a nursing program from an accredited school of nursing.
  • A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Indiana is required.
  • A minimum of two years of experience is required.
  • Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required and must be maintained.
  • Certification in CPR is required and must be maintained.
