Our goal is to foster a work environment that attracts top talent, inspires innovation, and renders excellence in service to our clients.
Our Power Services team is hiring a Designer I to support the planning and design of power distribution facilities. You'll work alongside engineers and experienced designers to develop overhead electric designs and help move projects from concept to construction.
What to expect:
  • Entry-level opportunity with training and mentoring-built as a long-term career path in the utility power industry
  • Blend of office-based design work and field visits/field checks (as needed)
  • Work on electric distribution projects using industry tools and utility standards
  • Develop skills that translate across the industry, with room to advance into higher-level design, project support, and specialized utility work

What you will do:
  • Gather and validate project information using tools such as GIS and Google Earth.
  • Review project requirements, identify constraints, and propose practical design solutions.
  • Design overhead and underground electric distribution projects using engineering/design software.
  • Learn and apply utility design and construction standards.
  • Interpret Right-of-Way documents and incorporate requirements into project designs.
  • Perform field checks and document site conditions that impact design and constructability.
  • Request survey & staking support; when needed, stake projects independently.
  • Create design sketches, drawings (including CAD-based drafting when applicable), work orders, and material lists for assigned projects.
  • Assist with design checks and basic analysis to confirm connectivity and structural considerations.
  • Conduct visual inspections of power facilities (poles, wires, transformers, and related equipment) as needed.
  • Work safely in varied environments-from office settings to outdoor field conditions.
  • Drive a personal vehicle in different weather and terrain conditions, as required.

Who you are:
You're curious, detail-oriented, and comfortable learning new software and processes. You communicate clearly, ask good questions, and enjoy solving problems. You can manage multiple priorities and are open to working in different settings-from an office environment to outdoor field conditions-depending on project needs.
What you bring:
  • Required: High school diploma or GED
  • Preferred: Associate degree or higher
  • Interest in starting a career in an engineering- or construction-related field
  • Demonstrated performance in work, school, or other commitments (e.g., strong GPA, awards, references)
  • Comfort using common software tools; willingness to learn new programs quickly
  • Preferred: CADD and/or drafting coursework or hands-on drafting experience
  • Preferred: Construction/engineering-related degree or certificate
  • New grads and entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply
