Job description

Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled API Automation / API Testing Engineer to design, develop, and execute automated tests for RESTful and/or SOAP APIs. The ideal candidate will ensure the quality, performance, security, and reliability of backend services across enterprise applications.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and execute manual and automated API tests to validate business logic, data integrity, and integrations
  • Develop and maintain API automation frameworks using tools such as REST Assured, Karate, Postman, or SOAPUI
  • Validate API requests and responses (JSON/XML), HTTP status codes, headers, authentication, and authorization mechanisms
  • Perform functional, regression, integration, and negative testing of APIs
  • Automate API test cases and integrate them with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, etc.)
  • Collaborate with developers, QA, and business teams to understand API specifications and identify test scenarios
  • Execute backend validation using SQL queries or other data validation techniques
  • Log, track, and manage defects using tools like JIRA and provide clear test reports and metrics
  • Ensure API compliance with performance, security, and reliability standards

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong experience in API Testing (REST / SOAP)
  • Hands-on experience with Postman, REST Assured, Karate, or SOAPUI
  • Proficiency in Java or similar programming language for automation
  • Good understanding of HTTP methods (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE) and REST architecture
  • Experience with JSON/XML parsing and validation
  • Knowledge of authentication mechanisms (OAuth, JWT, API keys, Basic Auth)
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools and version control systems (Git)

Nice to Have
  • Experience with BDD frameworks (Cucumber, Gherkin)
  • Exposure to performance testing (JMeter, Gatling)
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Understanding of API security testing and best practices

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
