What We Are Looking For

The Legal Assistant is a crucial member of the Employment Law and Social Economic Justice practice group, providing essential support to attorneys and paralegals. This role involves managing confidential tasks, administrative responsibilities, and clerical duties in line with established procedures. The Legal Assistant will answer phone calls, greet clients, contribute to fact-checking and compiling case evidence, and maintain communication with both internal and external contacts. Under the supervision of an attorney, the Legal Assistant will handle confidential tasks to provide comprehensive support in assigned legal cases.


Role and Responsibilities:

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

Case Management:

  • Assist attorneys in managing employment law cases from inception to resolution.
  • Monitor case progress and ensure critical deadlines are met.
  • Prepare discovery requests, responses, and organize document productions.

Legal Research & Document Preparation:

  • Conduct legal research and initial case assessments.
  • Draft, review, and edit legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, appeals, agreements, contracts, and legal memoranda.
  • Summarize deposition transcripts, medical records, and other legal documents.

Client Interaction:

  • Help with client intake and maintain consistent communication throughout the case.
  • Meet with clients, attorneys, and other professionals to discuss case details.

Administrative Support:

  • Organize and maintain documents in paper and electronic filing systems.
  • Coordinate with attorneys and paralegals to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Prepare billing information and track attorney time entries.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Work experience as a legal assistant, legal secretary, or entry level paralegal.
  • Familiarity with law, legal procedures and protocols, and court system.
  • Working knowledge of case management software.
  • Excellent secretarial and organizational skills.
  • Computerized information and database record-keeping systems.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • At least three years related experience. Paralegal certificate will be considered in lieu of experience.

Preferred Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and advanced computer skills with programs, applications, and other software and databases.
  • Exposure to programs such as TimeSheets, Hona and Litify.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with different teams, practice areas, and individuals.
  • Excels in diverse work environments.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
