Job description

Financial Analyst

Base Salary: $50,000 – $60,000 CAD + bonus + meaningful equity

Location: Remote-first (Canada/US preferred), optional in-person collaboration in Vancouver

The Opportunity

We’re hiring a high-potential Financial Analyst to join the FP&A function of a dual-listed (TSX/NASDAQ) fintech company operating across lending, payments, and capital allocation.

This is not a traditional entry-level finance role.

You will work directly on:

  • financial models
  • forecasting
  • business performance
  • capital allocation

…and partner closely with senior finance leadership, including the Director of Finance and CFO.

About Orion

Orion is a dual-listed fintech company (TSX/NASDAQ) focused on building financial infrastructure across wealth, payments, and capital allocation. The company is evolving toward a model where capital allocation is a core capability - integrating a long-term investing platform, global payments infrastructure, and an actively managed treasury strategy. This results in a business with non-trivial accounting and financial complexity, spanning financial instruments, multi-entity operations, and capital deployment decisions.
Orion is founder-led and operates with a focus on discipline, long-term value creation, and thoughtful balance sheet management. In this environment, finance and accounting are not support functions - they are central to how performance is measured, decisions are made, and the business is understood by public market investors.

Why This Role Matters

  • Work directly on forecasting, modeling, and business performance analysis
  • Build a deep understanding of how a multi-product fintech operates
  • Gain exposure to lending, payments, and capital allocation within a public company
  • Develop strong financial modeling and analytical skills early in your career
  • Contribute to real outputs used by leadership
  • Help shape how the business is understood internally and externally through financial insights
  • Help build a modern FP&A function leveraging automation and AI

What You’ll Own

1. Financial Modeling & Forecasting

  • Build and maintain financial models across business lines
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning
  • Update key assumptions and business drivers
  • Assist with scenario analysis and capital allocation decisions

2. Performance Analysis

  • Track and analyze performance across lending, payments, and wealth
  • Identify trends, drivers, and key variances
  • Develop metrics and reporting to monitor business performance

3. Reporting & Decision Support

  • Support preparation of materials for CFO and leadership
  • Contribute to internal reporting and performance discussions
  • Translate financial and operational data into clear, structured insights

4. Build & Improve

  • Improve models, reporting, and data structures
  • Identify opportunities to automate and streamline workflows
  • Leverage AI and modern tools to improve speed, quality, and scalability of analysis

What You Bring

Core Attributes

  • Strong analytical ability — you can break down problems and think clearly
  • Intellectual curiosity — you want to understand how businesses actually work
  • Ownership mindset — you take responsibility and follow through
  • Comfort with ambiguity — you can operate without perfect structure
  • Strong work ethic — you are willing to go deeper than average

Background

  • Undergraduate degree in business, finance, economics, engineering, math, or related field
  • Strong track record of high performance (e.g., academics, internships, or projects)
  • Internship experience in finance, consulting, banking, or a relevant analytical role preferred
  • Strong Excel skills (or demonstrated ability to learn quickly)
  • Interest in data, systems, and AI tools
  • Ability to work with large datasets or build structured analyses (Excel, SQL, Python, or similar)
  • Evidence of self-driven learning (e.g., building models, side projects, competitions, research)

What Success Looks Like (12 Months)

  • You can independently update and maintain financial models
  • You understand the key drivers of the business across multiple segments
  • You contribute meaningfully to forecasting and performance tracking
  • Your analysis is used in decision-making by the finance team
  • You have improved at least one model, dataset, or workflow

Compensation

  • Base Salary: $50,000 – $60,000 CAD
  • Performance-based bonus
  • Meaningful equity participation aligned with long-term value creation

Final Note

This is a role for people who want to:

  • build strong analytical skills
  • take ownership early
  • learn how a business actually operates

This role is designed as a starting point for accelerated growth, not a static position.

Benefits of working with us:

  • Fully Remote Work - Unless otherwise specified in the job posting, Orion offers flexible remote work, supported by the tools and resources needed to succeed.
  • Comprehensive Health Benefits - Access to medical, dental, and vision coverage plus a Health Spending Account
  • Stock Options - Meaningful equity participation aligned with long-term value creation and company growth
  • Flex Vacation - Benefit from paid time off, including vacation and personal days
  • Wellbeing Programs - Access counselling services, mental health support, and additional wellness resources
