Job description

Job Title: Sodium Fire Analysis Engineer Location: Remote Type: Long term Contract Compensation: $56-$95 Overview Responsible for performing sodium fire modeling calculations to support the Natrium® design and licensing. They will work directly with other nuclear safety analysis and licensing staff to ensure technical and regulatory requirements for nuclear safety and worker protection are met. Other engineering activities include, but are not limited to, contributing to the development of computational methodologies and models, contributing to software commercial grade dedication, participating in hazard analysis, participating to Phenomena Identification and Ranking Table (PIRT) exercises, participating to Structures, Systems and Components (SSC) classification, developing analytical methods, performing analysis of sodium fire as well as verification and validation activities. Responsibilities

  • Perform sodium fire modeling calculations to support the Natrium® design and licensing.
  • Collaborate with nuclear safety analysis and licensing staff to meet technical and regulatory standards.
  • Develop analytical models for sodium chemical reactions, aerosol generation, and transport.
  • Conduct software quality assurance activities to qualify sodium fire modeling codes.
  • Support the development of mechanistic source term methods for normal operations and postulated accidents.
  • Develop analytical models for containment performance, including mass and energy release and leak rates.
  • Support regulatory submittals and interactions with the NRC.
  • Establish and support a containment strategy considering sodium fire impact.
  • Work with interdisciplinary teams to establish safety, reliability, and performance standards for SSC.
  • Document model development and analysis results.
  • Perform engineering reviews and recommend safety-related design solutions.

Requirements

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in nuclear engineering or relevant engineering discipline with at least 3 years of nuclear experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of sodium chemical reactions, thermal-hydraulics, reactor dynamics, and transient phenomena.
  • Experience with sodium fire analysis using codes such as CONTAIN-LMR, MELCOR, SPCA-ANL, SOFIRE II, NACOM, or similar.
  • Familiarity with functional containment approach and nuclear design, regulatory requirements, and risk-informed performance-based guidance for Non-Light Water Reactors.
  • Knowledge of PRA principles and familiarity with ASME/ANS Non-Light Water PRA standards (a plus).
  • Experience in SFR safety analysis preferred.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, modeling, and reporting skills.
  • Understanding of NQA-1 requirements related to analysis and software management.
  • Experience with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Software engineering skills are a plus.
  • Demonstrates high integrity, effective communication, and teamwork.
