They help ensure that healthcare providers and facilities receive proper reimbursement from insurance companies by accurately coding medical information. Entry level positions are typically for those new to the field, often requiring a coding certification and strong attention to detail. Remote coders use specialized software and must adhere to healthcare privacy regulations. This role offers flexibility and the opportunity to start a career in healthcare administration.

What does an entry level remote medical coder do?

An entry-level remote medical coder works from home to handle data entry related to medical records and healthcare insurance claims. As a remote medical coder, your duties include listening to and transcribing doctors’ notes, cross-referencing medical codes and reimbursement and billing information, and querying clinics or healthcare professionals when information does not match up with your records. Responsibilities also include noting all patient treatment options, determining whether or not they have the proper health care coverage, and keeping meticulous records.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry level remote medical coder?

To thrive as an Entry Level Remote Medical Coder, you need a foundational understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and coding systems (such as ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS), typically supported by a relevant certification like CPC or CCA. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems and medical coding software is essential for accurate data entry and code assignment. Attention to detail, self-motivation, and strong organizational skills are vital soft skills for maintaining accuracy and productivity in a remote setting. These skills are crucial to ensure precise coding, compliance with regulations, and efficient remote workflow.

To manage these, it's important to establish a structured daily routine, utilize company-provided resources and training, and proactively communicate with supervisors or team members when questions arise. Building a support network with other remote coders and participating in online forums can also help address uncertainties and foster professional growth.

Job description

Cloud Engineer II (US-based, ET/CT time zones only), Full time, Remote

ICON is a global healthcare intelligence and clinical research organisation united by a mission to bring new medicines and treatments to patients faster.

As a values-driven organisation, integrity, collaboration, agility, and inclusion are at the heart of how we work and interact with each other, customers, patients and suppliers.

The Role:

We're excited to be seeking a US-based Cloud Engineer II located in the ET or CT time zones for a full-time, remote position. As a Cloud Engineer II you will provide hands-on engineering expertise for the deployment of cloud infrastructure, services and application hosting patterns, with a strong focus on automation, repeatability and operational reliability.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, deploy and support secure, scalable and resilient cloud solutions across one or more major public cloud platforms, including Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates, CloudFormation or equivalent technologies to ensure cloud environments are version-controlled, auditable and consistently deployed.

  • Implement cloud networking, identity, access management, secrets management, logging, monitoring and alerting in line with security, compliance and operational standards.

  • Work closely with application, infrastructure, security and operations teams to translate business and technical requirements into well-architected cloud solutions.

  • Advise product and application teams on appropriate cloud patterns, deployment approaches and platform services, supporting them to adopt scalable, secure and supportable solutions rather than simply executing infrastructure tasks.

  • Contribute to a platform engineering approach by developing reusable templates, golden paths, self-service deployment patterns and standardized cloud services that enable application teams to deploy solutions consistently and efficiently.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across cloud platforms, deployment pipelines and production environments, ensuring timely restoration of service and continuous improvement of solution reliability.

  • Support cloud migration, modernization and platform engineering initiatives, including assessment of existing workloads, design of target-state architectures and execution of deployment plans.

  • Continuously optimize cloud environments for performance, availability, security and cost, making practical recommendations based on usage patterns, monitoring data and platform best practice.

  • Support FinOps and cost accountability practices, including effective tagging standards, budget visibility, cost governance, chargeback or showback models, and use of reserved capacity or savings plans where appropriate.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent relevant work experience

  • 3 - 6+ years of strong hands-on expertise in at least one of Azure, AWS or GCP, with practical experience deploying production cloud solutions, including items such as: SCPs, landing zones, Control tower, AWS config, Cloudwatch, Cloudtrail AWS cost explorer, Azure Policy, Azure Security Centre, Azure monitor, Azure Advisor. GCP logging, GCP monitoring.

  • Practical experience with modern CI/CD deployment practices working with source control, automated deployment pipelines and release processes.

  • Strong scripting or automation skills, for example PowerShell, Bash, Python or similar, are required to support repeatable deployment and operational automation.

  • Experience in cloud cost optimization including, rightsizing, Optimizing, and use of reserved instance\Saving

  • Experience across multiple cloud platforms is highly desirable and will be considered a strong advantage.
