Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Full-Time Entry-Level Geoscientist to join our team. The successful job applicant will be supervised by our Lead Geophysicist and will work with members of our remote sensing, geospatial field services, and geotechnical engineering teams on renewable energy and other power-related projects. Work elements may include some or all of the following: geophysical and geotechnical fieldwork, geophysical and remote sensing data processing, and report and proposal preparation. Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients.

Requirements

Job Duties:

  • Plan geophysical surveys and acquire geophysical (e.g., Ground Penetrating Radar [GPR], electrical resistivity, and hand-held magnetometer) data in the field.
  • Process and interpret ground-based and aerial geophysical and remote sensing (LiDAR and imagery) data.
  • Lead on-site coordination and execution of geotechnical site investigations by managing drilling subcontractors, logging soil samples, and performing geotechnical testing.
  • Prepare geophysical, remote sensing, and geotechnical deliverables, reports, and proposals.
  • Keep management advised of work status, workload, problems, and progress as related to work assignments.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Completion or near completion of a B.S. or M.S. program in the geological sciences. 1-3 years of related work experience is preferred.
  • Experience collecting and processing near-surface geophysical data, specifically with GPR and magnetometers.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical engineering and testing, remote sensing fundamentals, and GIS analysis.
  • Strong technical and interpersonal skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and clients, orally and in writing, in English.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and check the quality of own work.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time and workload effectively, which includes planning, organizing and prioritizing tasks.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Willingness to adapt to changing technologies and industry trends.
  • Valid driver's license with a favorable driving record.
  • Ability to travel and work in the field for extended periods (up to 2 weeks) or 15-20% overall.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and various terrains associated with undeveloped sites and active construction projects.
  • Proficiency in MS Office. Knowledge of Oasis Montaj, ArcGIS, QGIS, and AutoCAD is an asset. Familiarity with other geophysical, remote sensing, and geotechnical software is a plus. Scripting and light programming knowledge to support automated task execution is also a plus.
