Network Engineer II

Location: Harrisburg PA

Full-time, hybrid schedule (at least 2 days on site)

MUST be a PA resident to be eligible, no out of state candidates will be considered. 

Position Overview

Our client is seeking a Network Engineer II to join its Infrastructure and Security team. This role will support the administration, maintenance, and optimization of network, server, and security environments across local area networks (LANs), metropolitan area networks (MANs), and private cloud infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in systems and network administration, experience supporting VMware environments, and the ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues in a fast-paced environment. This position requires a proactive professional who can balance operational support responsibilities with project-based initiatives while meeting established deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot physical and virtual server environments.

  • Perform ongoing server administration activities, including system updates, patch management, and performance monitoring.

  • Support network infrastructure by configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting switches, routers, and related networking components.

  • Administer and support Cisco networking equipment and VMware distributed virtual switching environments.

  • Configure and maintain Cradlepoint routers and connectivity solutions.

  • Monitor infrastructure health and respond to incidents, outages, and service requests.

  • Assist with the investigation, analysis, and remediation of security incidents and vulnerabilities.

  • Maintain security best practices and support compliance initiatives across infrastructure environments.

  • Track, prioritize, and resolve support tickets while managing workload against departmental service-level objectives.

  • Collaborate with network, security, and systems teams to identify and implement infrastructure improvements.

  • Document technical procedures, configurations, and operational processes.

  • Prepare and present recommendations for issue resolution, risk mitigation, and infrastructure enhancements to team leads and management.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in server administration within Windows and VMware environments.

  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience with VMware vSphere administration and support.

  • Experience managing and troubleshooting virtual and physical server infrastructure.

  • Knowledge of network administration concepts, including switching, routing, and connectivity troubleshooting.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
